Q: How can I use 2 ipods on 1 account without everything clashing?

Hi everyone,

Just a quick question that i'm sure has been asked a thousand times before.

I have recently got myself an iphone 6s. It was long overdue but my iphone 4 has served me extremely well. So much so that i'm using it as an ipod.

The question i have is, can I use both on the same account without having to have the same content on both? I want to wipe the iphone 4 completely and only use it for music and use my 6s as a phone/camera/work device.

Cheers, Danny.

iPhone 6s, iOS 9.2.1

To get data from old iPhone to new, see this -> Transfer content from an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to a new device - Apple Support

Then restore old iPhone as new and use it as you want.

You can put whatever you like on each device.

OK. Can anyone explain how. I've transferred all my content, that bit was easy. I just want to run both my 4 and 6s as separate items. So basically I don't want photos/contacts/apps on the 4. And maybe just a select few tracks on my 6s.

As I wrote above, restore the iPhone 4 as new and select what you want on it..

So then do that. This is not rocket science.  Connect each device and select / deselect what items you want synced or not synced.

Open iTunes, connect first device, select what you want, sync.

Ok, I think i may be confusing everyone. I don't think I've explained myself very well. I've been using iTunes for a very long time (i had the original iPod touch, moved on to an iPhone 4 and now the 6s) so i know the system well.

What I mean is, can they be set up so that iTunes recognizes each device as an individual device and apply its individual settings? For example; My iPhone 4 is set up for just music and nothing else (so only tracks are checked to sync when it's plugged in) and the iPhone 6s only has apps checked, and iTunes knows this so i don't need to uncheck all the tracks ie iTunes knows which device I'm using and how i want to use it.

    It's not.

    You are.

Yes. Follow the instructions we posted above.

My iPhone 4 is set up for just music and nothing else (so only tracks are checked to sync when it's plugged in)

Leave everything checked and create playlist(s) specifically for each iPhone.

That is the way iTunes works by default.
