Q: mp4 converted question

hello to all

I know that final cut pro x can read MP4.

but the problem I faced is that the editor we cooperate with use final cut pro 7.

So I have to make all the mp4 converted to PORES422 without lost the quality.

and I know little about final cut pro 7...(I understand that it's discussion area for X, sorry, but I'm helpless)

I have "a lot of" MP4 to convert.(we use sony A7S when shooting)

Does any one know how can I convert mp4 to Pores422 with more efficiency AND without lost of quality?

("any video convertir" will lose quality! I think maybe there will be some converter for professional use...?)

and I was wondering how professional post production company convete the file from different codec...any ideas?

some advise or tutorial will help me a lot.

thank you very much!

Lucy

You can use Compressor or MPEG Streamclip to batch convert to ProRes.

    Hi Lucy.

Technically, the transcoding to Pro Res will cause a diminution in image quality…but as a practical matter, it is extremely unlikely that you or anyone will be able to detect the difference.

You can import the files into FCP X and export as Pro Res 422 (or even LT) and I believe you will be very happy with the results.

Alternatively, if you only need to transcode, you could use the free and excellent MPEG Streamclip. Or for more extensive functionality, consider Compressor. You could also convert to Pro Res in the Finder (Right Click>Compress).

when I import to mpeg and compressor, it end up with the error window...

the mp4 files I have are XAVC from sony a7s4..

it seems I have to use final cut pro X. but I have A LOT of mp4 files..

does anybody knows how to export the medias in browser that I imported and export they all at the same time

(Or I have to export it one by one? no!! tell me that wasn't true!!)

    thank you all very much!

Could you post a small piece of this media from your camera where it can be downloaded?

Depending on the files you have, you might be able to transcode directly from the Finder.

Select, control-click, choose Services->Encode Selected Video Files.

In the dialog that comes up, select Apple ProRes.Screenshot 2016-03-15 at 15.58.44.png

I tried, and it will transcodec in prores422 mov, but will it possible to transcodec in proress422 HQ???

or it depends on the quality of video? will it be better quality in HQ??

I don't think that there would be a noticeable difference between the two.

I looked inside Automator for the action that supports this service and there are no more options than the ones you see in the Finder, so I don't think you can encode to ProRess422 HQ using this.

    What Luis said.

The Pro Res option in the Finder is Pro Res 422 only…not that there is anything wrong with that. Unless you're transcoding material from very high end cameras or working in UHD, it is extremely unlikely that anyone would be able to tell the difference between 422 and the higher-data rate codecs. BTW, speaking of UGD, the Finder option is also limited to 1080 output.

    Good luck.
