Jul 18, 2015 11:26 AM in response to Ralph Johns (UK)by JustCJ123,Hi Ralph,
The AIM address ends in @mac.com, and I found the AIM in Keychain under "Local Items>Passwords.
So I deleted the Keychain and deleted the AIM account from Messages. Then recreated the account with a new password, but the AOL Message still showed up.
And the name in the Keychain libraries where all under the same name.
Any other thoughts?

ApplicationsHi,
In The Keychain Access App use the App Menu itself and select the First Aid item.
In the panel that shows up check the Login and Keychain Password are synchronized.
Sorry for being late I did not get a reminder of you new post.

ApplicationsHi,
AIM allow several non AIM registered names/IDs as valid Screen Names. In the case of Apple this includes @mac.com Names (All whether they are still in use, were trail account with Apple originally or are lapsed paid for accounts).
Any @me.com that has been linked to iCloud to keep it active. (MobileMe di have Trial Accounts but you had to manually close them before being charged if you di not want them. Lapsed paid for ones also no longer work as Apple IDs and therefore don't work as AIM Screen Names as well).
Any iCloud linked account. This could be an @me.com name or @icloud.com names that were issued later.
These will all work on Messages only and the last version of iChat 6.
The update to iChat was where the check with Apple Server AND the AIM servers at the same time was started to check the Login is valid.
This means all these no longer work in iChat 1 through 5 and the earlier version of iChat 6 as these versions only rely on logging into AIM and the AIM server checking the Apple Servers only which is no longer allowed.
My First reply back on July 14th had already mentioned your solution when the Original Poster then cam back and said they were using an @mac.com name.

Jan 18, 2016 8:42 PM in response to JustCJ123by terryfromevergreen,I had this problem. But I never had an AIM account. For some reason the messages app went looking for a non-existent AIM account (and password) as default.
If this is the case for you... do the following
Go to (in the messages app) top left under "Messages" go to preferences and click on it.
Click on the iMessages account. Enable the account by clicking on and inputting a checkmark in the box "Enable this account."
then input your apple id.
The AIM account for some reason had begun coming up as active and asking for an id. So under the AIM account on the same screen disable this account by clicking on (and therefore disabling) the "Enable this account" box.
Hope this helps.
