Mar 9, 2016 9:15 AM in response to my gingerby TJSXOX,Hi again I read a lot on the web that after updating to 10.6.8 made a lot of other people having the same problem. I don't know if the cd drive worked before I updated the OS I just opened the computer and it search for updates and said to update so I went to apple site where it had the update and i downloaded it to a flash drive and installed it and thats when I noticed that the cd drive didn't work because I was trying to load software for my printer.I ordered the OS X snow leopard used my external cd drive to re install the OS and still had the same problem. and then I went to this site where we met.So is there a driver that I can get for my cd drive?

Mar 9, 2016 9:51 AM in response to TJSXOXby my ginger,The drivers are supplied with software or updates. Normally you would not go and get the update and install to a flash drive as it comes by way of software update direct from apple. If when you got the Snow Leopard retail disk, you did an erase of the hard drive and then installed. You get the drivers needed. All updates should be done thru software update. If you go back to 10.6.3, the retail Snow Leopard and then update. you will get about 8 or 10 updates to get to 10.6.8 Some are security, some are system, some are Itunes and safari.

Mar 9, 2016 10:16 AM in response to TJSXOXby my ginger,When you go to the apple in the top left and click on software update. It will run a progression bar to read the computer and then show updates(if any) for your computer. Sometimes you get the updates in groups of more than one at a time. With the option to check the ones you want or install all of them. Also as update become available, apple will automatically display an update as ready to download. Giving you the option to do so it you want. After Snow Leopard, all update come from the app store. The only time I have ever use another way is when I have a problem and need to reinstall an update. This I do from apple support, downloads and updates. But there is only a limited supply of updates this way.

Mar 11, 2016 8:24 AM in response to TJSXOXby my ginger,I had this happen once. I had to start in safe mode. Boot with shift key down. Then when I got it booted up I went to computer, library. updates. I then deleted the updates, except for Index.plist and Productmetadata.plist. Do not delete those. Emptied the trash and restarted. Do you remember the update that was trying to install when this happened? If you get this far and run the software update again and it is more than one. Install them one at a time. If it will not let you do this, then you will need to use the install disk to reinstall. This does not delete your personal files. but will get it to boot up

Mar 14, 2016 2:37 PM in response to TJSXOXby my ginger,One of the updates is corupting. It would help to know what those update where. If one was the OSX combine update. You may need to get if from apple support downloads and updates instead.
