Q: my nephews iphone 5 got a black screen when you plug it in it continues to make the sound as if you keep plugging it in

My nephews iphone 5 got a black screen. When you plug it in to charge it keeps making the sound as if you continue to keep plugging it in. I tried to hold the power button and home button at the same time but still nothing on the screen

iPhone 5, iOS 9.1

When you switch the ringer side switch, does it still vibrate?

If so then the phone is on and the display is out.  Probably just needs a display replacement.

    1) Try holding the Home button and Power Button for at least 10 seconds while it is not plugged in.

    2) Plug the iPhone into iTunes and see if its recognized.  If so, see if it will allow you to restore the iPhone.

    3) Place it into recovery mode.  While plugged into iTunes, hold the two buttons for step 1 until it disappears in iTunes.  Then release the power button and keep holding the home button until iTunes has detected a device in recovery mode.  Proceed with restoring the iPhone.

    4) if the screen continues to stay black, you will want to take or send it in for service.  http://www.apple.com/support/service/
