Mar 12, 2016 3:06 AM in response to macgamer1998by Courcoul,★HelpfulUnfortunately that would be a Very Bad Idea. You can upgrade the OS on Macs to a degree (hardware compatibility), but you cannot downgrade reliably, since the old OS doesn't know how to run the new hardware correctly. More so with Mac OS 8, which was designed for Motorola 68000 and PowerPC processors, which have long since disappeared. There might be an emulator around, such as SheepShaver, but the hardware (not only CPU, but the rest such as graphics) has changed so much it will be just a novelty, unable to run efficiently enough so a game is playable on it.

Mar 12, 2016 3:11 AM in response to Courcoulby macgamer1998,Thanks. If I had seen this post I would not have tried to run sheepshaver. I got it to work and loaded mac os 9 and had the red faction installation file in mac os 9 but when I run it sheepshaver closed down.
The specs for this game is in french below but I don't understand it fully

Do you know any old powerpc or other mac laptops are powerful enough to run it? I may be able to buy one under $150 including shipping

Mar 12, 2016 9:22 AM in response to macgamer1998by FatMac>MacPro,Check out WPMac. It's a complete emulation of OS 8.6 that runs in SheepShaver. You can add your own software to it.

Mar 13, 2016 11:16 AM in response to macgamer1998by FatMac>MacPro,So you ran WPMacApp, moved the game installer onto its emulated HD and the installer ran successfully but the game itself freezes instead of running? Note that if you hold down the Option key when WPMacApp starts, a list of options you can change appears before OS 8 boots. Have you tried changing the screen resolution?
