Q: Cannot view smart albums on iPad Air.  I need a good alternative to Photos.

I HATE the way Photos is set up.  I have created "Smart Albums" on my Macbook Pro so photos are easier to find.  After synching my iPad Air, I cannot view smart albums on my iPad Air, only albums.  I organize my photos using "Smart Albums".!!  You can't even use an alternate photo app to create slideshows or collages from...the app takes you directly to Photos!!

Any suggestions?  You should be able to MOVE a photo into an album on the iPad, but it only copies.  What good is that when you're trying to organize your thousands of photos????

MacBook, iOS 5, cannot edit Distribution Lists

How are you syncing?  If you enable iCloud Photo Library on your iPad, you can only see the standard albums on the iPad.  But if you disable iCloud Photo Library and sync selected albums to your iPad using iTunes Photo Sync, you can sync the smart albums as well as the standard albums.

See:   Sync photos to your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch in iTunes - Apple Support

That is what I am using to sync my smart albums from the mac to iPad.  It has the added advantage, that all photos are stored locally on the iPad in the full resolution and do not need to download from iCloud.

There is no way to move photos to an album, neither in Photos or iPhoto on the Mac nor on the iPad.  Albums are grouping photos in a new way that are stored in the library. You can add the same photo to as many albums as you want, and it will only be stored once on the device, even if you add it to 10 different albums.
