Mar 13, 2016 6:49 PM in response to gtrIIIby Niel,★HelpfulChoose About this Mac from the Apple menu, click on More Info, and look for it. It needs to be at least MacBook5,1 for your computer to be compatible with 10.8 or newer.
If you have a compatible Mac, you'll need to either have previously gotten Mavericks or Yosemite from the Mac App Store or go to a physical Apple Store and ask for those OS versions.
