Q: Need to downgrade to Yosemite from El Capitan..

Need to downgrade to Yosemite from El Capitan but I have no Yosemite under purchases in App Store & I never saved a restore in Time Machine before upgrading to El Capitan :/

It's a MacBook Air 13" that came with Yosemite - I only upgraded to El Capitan in App Store but now my Audio Interface (Avid Eleven Rack) doesnt support El Capitan so I need to downgrade it somwhow to make it work. Is it possible?

MacBook Air, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

    Yes.

OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support

That will allow you to revert back to the OS that came on your computer when you bought it, which just so happens to be the OS you want to go back to.

Restart with the Option, Command, and R keys held down, use the Disk Utility to erase or partition the internal drive, and install Yosemite onto the empty volume. Repartitioning a drive with Boot Camp set up on it may disable Windows.

If your Mac shipped with Yosemite, it should be available via the Internet Recovery process. You will need to backup your current data first to an external drive, becuase the only way to go back is to erase your drive first.

    Hello,

I just bought a new MacBook Air coming with Mac OS 10.11.

This new MacBook Air with El Capitan does not properly detect some USB audio devices (they connect and disconnect).

El Capitan has reduced the USB compatibility of Mac USB 3.0 ports, as it is explained hereafter

    http://audiophilereview.com/cd-dac-digital/apple-messes-up-usb-30-audio-big-time .html

I do not expect Apple will update El Capitan to correct this USB issue as

    - I did not find messages from Apple in online discussions related to this USB issue on Apple forum,

    - Apple new MacBook with only 1 type C connector for either a power supply or a USB device means Apple is not focused on USB compatibility.

So I would like to install Yosemite on my new MacBook Air instead of El Capitan, but this MacBook Air came with El Capitan, it was never delivered with Yosemite. Is there a process to replace El Capitan by Yosemite on a new MacBook Air which was originally delivered with El Capitan?

PS: I have another (older) MacBook Air with Yosemite, in case someone it may help to get rid of El Capitan on my new MacBook Air.

If the mac came with El Capitan on it you can't put an older OS on it I'm afraid.

    Hello Eau Rouge,

    Thank you for this answer.

As I have a Mac account user on Apple store for years, I can download OS X Yosemite (5.72 GB update of December 1st, 2014) on my Mac, so, if the download of the Yosemite Installer go oes all right, I will try to install Yosemite in following the process described here: Create a bootable installer for OS X - Apple Support

You won't be able to install it on a mac that came preloaded with El Capitan

    Hello,

Good piece of news: Apple has released Mac OS 10.11.4 yesterday. Mac OS 10.11.4 "fixes an issue that caused USB audio devices to disconnect", and indeed the disconnection issues of USB audio devices of the previous El Capitan releases are solved, so I no longer need to move to Yosemite.
