Q: I can't see all my apps in iTunes!

When I connect my iPhone to iTunes, and go to look at the Apps (standard Device view), it's only showing me ten (and I've got 161 - it knows that, it's telling me!).  So where are they all - why can't I see them?  I'm seeing the ten apps, then 16 more underneath (under File Sharing) - and then a panel on the right, called Home Screens (which I can't get rid of).  I've transferred all my purchases, I don't see what else I can do really.  And all my apps are up to date (and they are all there on my phone, working away happily!).

Even when I go to View > Apps, I can only see a total of eleven apps (one extra from my iPad).  I want to see them ALL laid out in rows like we had before - how can I do that, does anyone know?  (This is rubbish at the moment - it's driving me mad!  )

New "App Thinning" with iOS9: To make apps smaller they are being customized for specific hardware when downloaded from Apple directly over-the-air to a device with iOS9. Apps downloaded directly to a device from Apple may no longer work on any other kind of device. Apple has decided there is no point in syncing these to a computer since each device should ideally get a customized version directly from Apple. If you want a backup copy on your computer you can transfer a non-thinned version directly from the Store to the computer which should you need it can be transferred to any i-device (but will take up more room). You may wish to enable automatic downloads on your computer so there will be a copy of all apps there as sometimes apps are removed from the Store: Turn on Automatic Downloads - https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202180#computer

The listbox of apps shows the apps that you have downloaded into the My Apps section of the iTunes library, not what is on the device, it lets you install or update (or remove) apps from the computer to the device. The file sharing section below that shows the apps that you have on the device that support file sharing - so as it shows what is on the device, can display more apps than in the listbox above it.

Do you have all of your apps in your Mac's iTunes library ? If your iPad Mini and iPhone are on iOS 9+ then Transfer Purchases won't copy apps back from them to your Mac's iTunes library (due to a developer function called 'app thinning', which allows only what is needed by an app on a particular device to be downloaded to it, so a device may not have the complete app). If you don't have the apps in your Mac's iTunes then you can redownload them on it via the Purchased section : click on the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage.
