Q: How do I resurrect my PowerMacintosh?

I was recently checking on the RAM inside my 1997 PowerMacintosh G3 minitower, and after closing back up the case and plugging back in all the peripherals, I noticed, out of the corner of my eye, that as I plugged the power cable back into the back of the tower, the screen seems to flash bright then slowly fade to black.

I didn't witness anything but the fading light, as I was still stuck around the back of the computer and the monitor was facing away from me.

The issue is: now when booting up the computer I get the chimes, and I hear the hard drive boot up, but after about a minute everything spins down and I get the Apple error sound, the one that kinda sounds like a breaking glass window.

I really hope this isn't the end of my computer as it is still key in what I do from day to day.

If anyone can shed light on what I did wrong, and how I might mend the situation it would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks, Aidyn

Can you check the AC outlet, like for power on the Ground?

I can't quite figure out the " power cable back into the back of the tower, the screen seems to flash bright then slowly fade to black." unless a.. youve got some crossed voltage on the AC outlet, or b… You have it set to start after Power failure  & there's a Graphic card problem.

Tty holding SHIFT key at power up, then try alt key… any change?

"I was recently checking on the RAM inside my 1997 Power Macintosh G3 minitower..."

Why were you "checking" on it?  Did you remove the memory DIMMs and reinstall them?  Did the locking latches in the slot snap closed, to indicate that the memory card was fully-seated?  Did you add some memory and if so, what type and density?  The breaking glass sound at startup is often related to incompatible memory being detected when the computer is booted.  You should restore the memory configuration to what it was, in terms of the DIMMs that were installed before this problem occurred.

After the event of horror I unplugged the computer, and let it sit for three days, then plugging it back in she came right back to life and has been working ever since.

Thanks again for all the help and concern!

You need to make some plans.  What are you doing?  What software are you using?

There 9.x emulators around that you can run on modern machines.
