Q: Extending Wi-Fi from Airport TC with Extreme

Had to update Time Capsule yesterday.

Had Airport Extreme as a extension of our Wi-Fi network here at farm.

Extreme base station is no longer recognize by TC base station.

How do I reset Extreme to talk to TC?

    Did you.......

Power off both the Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme

    Wait a minute

Power up the Time Capsule and let it run a full minute

Power up the AirPort Extreme and let it run a full minute

If you have already done this.....what exactly was updated on the Time Capsule?

Thanks for the info. You could have saved yourself some time by mentioning up front that the Time Capsule was a replacement device. That changes everything.

Does the AirPort Extreme connect to the Time Capsule using a wired Ethernet connection or does the AirPort Extreme connect to the Time Capsule using a wireless connection?

Sorry for all the questions, but I cannot see your network......and things that appear obvious to you are totally unknown to me.

    TC to Xtreme is wireless.

    Wireless Diagram:

DSL Router - TC unit - wireless to Extreme unit.

Extreme will configure to DSL Router if I shut down TC unit, but it create its own new network.

Can't seem to get Airport Utility to see both devices so I can set protocol and assign network to Extreme as the extended device.

I want TC unit as base station for DSL Router connection and Printer connection.

OK, I assume that the Time Capsule is producing a wireless network signal. That is critical.

Please follow these instructions very carefully.

Temporarily, move the AirPort Extreme to the same room or close proximity to the Time Capsule.

Make sure that the AirPort Extreme has been powered on for a few minutes

Hold in the reset button on the back of the Extreme for 5 to 6 seconds, then release

Allow a full minute for the Extreme to restart to a slow, blinking amber light status

Click the WiFi icon at the top of the Mac's screen and look for a listing of New AirPort Base Station

Click directly on AirPort Extreme under that heading

The setup "wizard" will open up and take a few seconds to analyze the network, then display a screen that looks like this....except that you will see your Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme pictured.

    Extend Wireless 1.png

Type in a short simple device name for the AirPort Extreme.  Mine is AEBS, for example

Click Next, and the setup wizard will configure everything for you automatically.

    Extend Wireless 2.png

Allow a minute or two and the next screen should say Setup Complete.

    Click Done

Move the AirPort Extreme back to a location where it can pick up a strong signal from the Time Capsule and you should be all set.
