Q: ios 9 update battery drain problem

First, don't respond with general battery life advice!  After upgrade to ios 9 then 9.01, the battery life on my iphone 5s has been reduced dramatically.

This is not a settings issue as I verified all my previous settings are the same as before the update.  All location services and background app refreshes are off and were off prior to the update.

There is clearly a problem with the ios using more resources.  All the responses I have seen regarding this issue give the same general advice for conserving battery life. This is not a "settings" issue - update resulted in maybe 50-60% of the previous battery life.

Any fixes in the works?

iPhone 5s, iOS 9.0.1

Airplane mode can actually increase battery drain. Restore it again. Do not log in to iCloud. Do not add any email accounts. Do not add any apps or music. If it still drains you have a hardware problem. Take it to an Apple store for diagnosis.

This was not helpful at all... I followed all directions from this forum and it made no difference. I reset my phone, stopped all default apps, turned off auto brightness and keychain and battery still drains within 3  hours rendering this phone useless. the update 9.0x won't even verify. How do you get access to previous updates as I haven't had any problems before this??

Since my problem could not be solved with all the software related issues, i took it to the apple store and they have changed it to a new one. I think it might be hardware related issue.

Lawrence, it is not an app issue,....well at least not on mine as I have reset the phone and now on ios 9.3.5. I have also tried 2 brand new batteries (in case the first replacement was faulty) and I am lucky if the phone lasts 5 hrs without touching it. Maybe accept that apple are at fault or at least their hardware/updates.

No, I do not accept that Apple is at fault. For one thing, if you replaced the batteries there is no way of knowing the quality of the batteries you used. All we know it that they were definitely not Apple approved batteries, because there aren't any available on the open market. And, unless you ran a complete diagnostic on the original battery that showed it was failing you probably replaced it unnecessarily. If you paid under $20 for the battery it's definitely junk, and it may still be if you paid even more.

For the past 9 years every time Apple has released an update there are a few people who report a battery issue, and, except in 2 instances (2.2 and 3.1) none of those were issues with the update; they were issues with an app that was corrupted by the update. So either over 3 dozen updates were all defective, or there must be a different explanation.

Lawrence, for the record, the batteries were brand new and tested also in another phone (same model) along with a battery app that also verified them as good, so there is nothing wrong with the batteries. I think you are naive to believe apple is so perfect and also the fact that so many people are having the same issue.

Yes I agree that there may be some app issuesin some of the cases, but you need to realise that the world is an imperfect place and that apple, regardless of how much apple are paying you, could by the realms of possibility have issues with their hardware.

Are you really suggesting that all these batteries start failing after an update which has nothing to do with the update.?Odds are against it and if your a betting man then I suggest you do the lottery.
