Q: how to fix "Iphone could not be restored. An unknown error occured (50)."

I got stucked with itunes logo on my phone, and got this message when trying to restore it to factory! It's an iphone 5C 32GB, I got the last Itunes, I have deleted it and re-install it, I got last OSX up to date, I have rebooted my computer, I have tried both USB, changed cables, connected by wire to internet, turned off mac firewall, put my phone on DFU mode. I had this error with my previous phone, and it king kind of get away at one point after multiple try, but this time I'm stucked in recovery mode, anyone know what could really cause that issue, is it software or hardware related?

well it didnt work, they proposed a repair for 269€ or to go to the network carrier that sold the iphone, as you got an european warranty that cover the phone for two years , so i contacted , but of course they dont want to take the charge of it!
Now the most bizzarre things occured to me, I had an iphone 5S left on the side, sitting there, because, I had some network issues with it, it would keep on searching, with or without sim card in! i have tried resetting the network, to reset all data, set the time and date, well the usual stuff you got on apple forum, and it didnt solve it!

So I tried a factory settings, and guess what, error 50 appeared, so I went to an half working phone to a non working one! I wonder if it's not planned obsolecence from apple. So now I got two unworking phone! Nice

OK little update, error 50 on Mac or -1 on windows is the result of a

commun hardware problem on iPhone, it's due to an un-soldered baseband CPU chip, that's why often you got your iPhone not being able to reach network, and you get your iPhone keeping on searching the network! At least now I know where it's coming from! Hopefully there is some shop doing the repairs, because it's not something you can do yourself! https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/242435/iTunes+error+%231+and+reflowing

1.7       Service Exclusions and Diagnostic Fee. Apple may charge you a diagnostic fee (including shipping charges) as described in the Country Variation table, below (“Diagnostic Fee”), if Apple inspects your product and determines that your product does not require service, (ii) your product has failed due to or has incompatibilities with software or data residing or recorded on your product (iii) service is required due to the failure of parts that are neither supplied by Apple nor Apple-branded, (iii) additional labor or parts are required that were not specified in the original estimated charges and you do not agree to authorize service based on Apple’s revised estimated charges, or (iv) service cannot be performed because the serial number has been altered, defaced or removed or the product has failed due to accident, abuse, liquid spill or submersion, neglect, misuse (including faulty installation, repair, or maintenance by anyone other than Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider), unauthorized modification, extreme environment (including extreme temperature or humidity), extreme physical or electrical stress or interference, fluctuation or surges of electrical power, lightning, static electricity, fire, acts of God or other external causes (“Service Exclusions”). Apple will return your product to you without servicing it and may charge you the Diagnostic Fee.

Yep.  So if the repair or maintenance is NOT faulty, your paragraph does not apply.

Yep but, or I got a dead phone, or I send it to a specialised repair shop!it is not under warranty anymore, and I'm not really ready to pay 269€ in Apple Store just for a soldering, especially, I dunno for this price, if they are going to change the whole logic board or just send it for a resoldering! And as their soldering isn't really efficient in the first place I rather go for a specialised soldering shop specialsed in circuitry! Plus I have already opened my iPhone and change the screen by myself! So Apple might refuse the repair just because I changed the screen by myself, so lost for lost , I go for the second option :-)
