Q: iMovie Event frames rotate 180 deg. when skimming

iMovie 9.0.9, mid-2010 iMac, El Capitan.  Many glitches with iMovie 9.0, especially after downloading El Capitan, until I found a copy of 9.0.9 on backup, some problems solved, others remain.  When skimming Event clips or hovering over a clip, the frame appears inverted.  Any bug fixes for this?

When importing an iMovie HD project, clips become scattered - out of order as they appeared on the iMovie HD timeline.

What is the last version of iMovie '11, anything more recent than 9.0.9?  If there is, how do I get it?  Not found on any Apple site.   I do not plan to use iMovie 10.

iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2010), Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Inverted clips are one of the many problems reported when using 9.0.9 with El Capitan. Others have included black/green frames, crashes etc. Essentially it is not compatible with El Capitan. 9.0.9 was the last upgrade to iMovie 11 before Apple moved to iMovie 10. iMovie 11 has been discontinued and won't be upgraded or patched. The only path forward is to upgrade to iMovie 10.1.1 or change your editing software. FCPX is an excellent professional editing package and cheap at $300 considering all of its features and capabilities. It does have a learning curve coming from iMovie. Actually you should consider iMovie 10 as it's a free upgrade from 9.0.9. It has basically all the editing features of 9.0.9 but with a redesigned user interface.

Thanks - I suspected it was a compatibility problem with El Capitan, and I regret downloading it.  Now I'm reluctant to download iMovie 10 after reading the App Store reviews - more "one star" comments than "five star."  If I try '10 on my movies, will that convert them somehow and prevent a return to using 9.0.9?

Yes and No. iMovie 10 will update your projects and events into a library structure, however it will preserve your iMovie projects folder and iMovie events folder so you can still use iMovie 9.0.9. See this guide from Apple about upgrading Update projects and events from previous versions of iMovie in iMovie (2014)Learn how you can update projects and events created with previous versions of iMovie (versions 7, 8, and 9) to work with iMovie (2014). iMovie 11 will continue to operate as before since iMovie 10 does not overwrite it. As a precaution I created a folder in Applications and put iMovie 11 in it prior to upgrading. Probably not necessary but I was wary. Currently I use both 11 and 10 with no problems other than 11's incompatibilities with certain operations. I mostly use FCPX but for simpler projects I find iMovie 10 to be quick and easy with most edit features I need.
