My first suspect is always a corrupted font. Use Font Book to Validate all your fonts. Any errors, remove or disable the font. Then try Motion again. If Motion is trying to use a corrupted font, and the font is missing or disabled, it will make a substitution with another available font.

Thank you for responding. I validated all the fonts in Font Book and the system said all of them passed and were safe to use. I also deleted fonts that I imported into Font Book as well.

Which subversion of Motion 5 are you using? 5.2.3? or older?

If you're up to date, then the next thing to do is hold down command and option and startup Motion. You'll be asked to delete preferences — do it. If you have an older version, update. [I am not aware of any compatibility issues with your iMac and Motion 5.2.3 — but I am not an authority.]

I'm not experiencing any issues from importing from the desktop in the File Browser. If that is an issue with the 5K iMac, and you feel it really is a bug, then go to the Motion menu and Provide Motion Feedback... If Apple thinks there might be something to it, you will hear back from somebody. If you're trying to import PSDs from photoshop, you might have problems if you haven't set the option for "Maximum File Compatibility" in Photoshop's preferences (Files section.) If the PS documents are in anything other than RGB format, you will also have problems. In general, investigate how the files you're trying to import were saved and if there might be some compatibility issues.
