Q: How do I change the "old Apple ID email address" in System Preferences iCloud to my new Apple ID email address?

I am using a Mac Book Pro OS X Version 10.9.5

How do I change the "old Apple ID email address" in System Preferences iCloud to my new Apple ID email address?

When I change password using my new Apple ID, I get a message from System Preferences iCloud to log in to the old Apple ID email address.

How do I change the "old Apple ID email address that's saved in System Preferences iCloud" to my new Apple ID email address

You need to sign out with the old ID and back in with the new one, you can't just change it in the text field.
