In my case, I have the location of the library on an external hard drive connected via Firewire 800. I've had this set up for months and NEVER had a problem, until now.
I'm on a:
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014)
Processor: 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory: 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB
Startup disk: Macintosh HD
Running FCPX 10.2.3

I can read & write the drive.
It is formatted: Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
Drive is 4TB and it has 217 GB of free space.
I've been working with FCPX and this drive for almost a year and never had any problems. Until now.
