    Hey there Arpitmalik1000,

I see that you are experiencing an issue with your hard drive on your Mac after attempting to install Boot Camp, and are seeing less free space than expected on your drive. If you are trying to delete a Boot Camp partition, use the information in the following article to help you:

Boot Camp: Remove Windows from your Mac

    Hey again Arpitmalik1000,

If you haven’t already tried to use the First Aid features of Disk Utility, I would like to suggest that you perform these steps on the drive:

Disk Utility (El Capitan): Repair a disk

    https://support.apple.com/kb/PH22243

After running first aid, check for partitions for you to erase on the drive again:

Disk Utility (El Capitan): Partition a physical disk

    https://support.apple.com/kb/PH22240

Thanks for being a part of the Apple Support Communities!

hey braden85 i tried to run first aid and its reporting that macintosh hd is having wrong storage information....however i believe in el capitan disk utility doesnt provide much option as it did in yosemite.....i think that boot camp assistant made a partition for windows but its not able to locate that partition ....attaching the first aid snapshot kindly go through it and see on the left that disk utility is not showing any 2nd partiton which i can select and delete...Screen Shot 2015-10-09 at 1.06.47 AM.png

    Hello again Arpitmalik1000,

My next suggestion would be for you to boot into Internet Recovery (as opposed to simply booting to the recovery partition on your internal drive) and see if this helps you to resolve the issue:

These steps reinstall the latest version of OS X that you previously had installed on your Mac. If you want to reinstall the version of OS X that came with your Mac, hold Command-Option-R at startup instead. This starts your Mac from Internet Recovery.

How to reinstall OS X on your Mac - Apple Support

    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204904

If that does not resolve the issue, you may wish to make a backup of the information in your hard drive using Time Machine before you proceed further:

Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac - Apple Support

    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201250

Once you have ensured the integrity of your backup of your personal data that you wish to save, you may need to erase and repartition your drive:

    Erase and repartition a device

You can erase all volumes on a device and create new ones. For example, if you want to change the partition map of a USB, Thunderbolt, or other storage device from Master Boot Record to GUID Partition Map. If you simply want to erase a volume, see Erase a volume

WARNING:    Erasing and partitioning a device destroys all data on all volumes of the device.

    1. Select the device in the sidebar you want to erase and repartition, then click the Erase button

Note:    You can’t erase the device that contains your startup volume.

    2. Enter a name for the initial volume.

    3. Click the Map pop-up menu, then choose a format for the initial partition.

For MS-DOS and ExFAT partitions, the name must be eleven characters or less.

      •

GUID Partition Map: Used for all Intel-based Mac computers.

      •
      •

Master Boot Record: Used for Windows partitions that will be formatted as MS-DOS (FAT) or ExFAT.

      •
      •

Apple Partition Map: Used for compatibility with older PowerPC-based Mac computers.

    4. Click Erase, then click Done.

    Hi Arpitmalik1000

I am experiencing the same issue as you did last year.

I erased all partitions  and I re-installed OSx via the recovery tools but still I only see half the disk space.  You say the solution was to install el capitan from the Apple Store - does this mean physically going in to the store to have it re-installed or via some online link?

    Appreciate your help
