Mar 20, 2016 6:17 AM in response to s1alexby Tom Wolsky,WWas the camera recording time of day or how was it set for timecode? Most cameras default to record run TC?

Mar 20, 2016 6:22 AM in response to s1alexby Russ H,If the camera records TC, there is no reason why FCP won't read it. I did a search and couldn't verify that the camera records TC.

Mar 22, 2016 10:20 AM in response to s1alexby David M Brewer,Have you updated the camera firmware? The firmware has been update a few times in the last few months. It's up to 3.1... I think version 2.00 added XAC-S.
I think you need XAVC-S, I could be wrong. Let me check and see if the A7Rii records a proper time that FCPX can read... Read this... https://community.sony.com/t5/Alpha-SLT-DSLR-Cameras/A7s-Problem-with-Filename- and-timecode/td-p/431826

Mar 22, 2016 11:57 AM in response to David M Brewerby David M Brewer,How here's what I was able to figure out. FCPX can't read Sony's MP4 XAC-S time code. I open the same clips in DaVinci Resolve 12 and it was able to read the timecode. Here's a workaround... You need to re-wrape the videos into a .mov wrapper for FCPX to read the timecode. I use EditReady to rewrap MP4 XAC-S videos.
There's no re-encoding...
Not only that Compressor 4 and Quicktime 7 (other programs that cant open XAC-S videos) can open XAC-S videos rewrapped into a .mov container.
As you can see FCPX can't re the MP4 XAC-S videos... rewrapping the videos the timecode can now be read.

Mar 22, 2016 12:27 PM in response to David M Brewerby s1alex,Thank you, David!
My main editing tool is Avid. Avid/Sony deal doesn't look good. Sony said they will never write a professional plugin for consumer XAVC-S codec.
So, I am considering between FCPX and Premier as an additional app to edit a7s footage directly without extra steps. Too bad FCPX can't read timecode – it is essential... Premiere does.

Mar 22, 2016 5:34 PM in response to s1alexby Tom Wolsky,How are you importing this media into FCP? Are you using the import window from the camera file structure, or have you taken the file out of it? Normally when you import XAVC and XDCAM and similar files they're rewrapped on import.
