Q: Late 2013 27" iMac has incorrect LCD model installed

Hello, I have a late 2013 27" iMac (14,2) with a cracked screen. I ordered a replacement part after researching and finding the appropriate model. The late 2013 model uses an LM270WQ1(SD)(F2), which is what I ordered. When the part arrived, I took off the old screen only to find that the model on the old screen is listed as LM270WQ1(SD)(F1), which is a 2012 iMac screen. The new screen powers in but causes the fans to blare at 100 percent non-stop. The thermal sensor is installed, and I even tried using the old thermal sensor. I am wondering if this f1-f2 issue is causing the fans to blare at 100 percent. Swapping in the old (f1) back in solves it. Why does the late 2013 have an f1 model, which is for 2012 iMacs, and is this fiasco causing the fans to blare? I already reset smc (unolug for 15 Seconds, plug in, wait 5, and power on). Any help on this confusion is appreciated.

I'm not sure if those display panels are interchangeable on the later models. I do know that the F1 and F2 labeled displays are interchangeable on the earlier iMac models.

Run the Apple Diagnostics/Hardware Test. It should at least give you a clue as to what sensor or other hardware is at fault.

Hello, thanks for the reply. The diognostic test just gave me an smc related error. As far as the f1/f2, debacle, do you know why the late 2013 model had an f1 model? We're the websites wrong for listing the f1 model as a 2012 iMac lcd?

Maybe try an SMC reset again, only wait longer before plugging it back in.

I'm not exactly sure, but like other manufactures they probably just use whatever is in inventory at assembly time.

Strange, I just opened mine up today (late 2013) and it has an F1 model too. I was expecting to see an F2, as I needed to order a replacement. Did your fan speed issue go away?

The issue didn't fix. I returned the LCD to the store I bought it from for a replacement and UPS cracked it in the way, so the store said it was my fault and didn't replace it. The store only listed the F2 model as compatible with late 2013, which was obviously false, so it's their fault for having incorrect info and for sending a defective unit to begin with.

Ouch, that's gone from bad to worse. There's definitely some incorrect information out there.

I just ordered an F1 screen from apple4less, based in Ireland. Hoping to receive it in the next few days and will report back once installed.
