Q: G4 Cube Ethernet Problem

I have a G4 Cube with 1 GB of memory, and the Ethernet simply doesn't work. Up until now, it worked perfectly, connecting me to an airport time capsule. All of the sudden, when I turned it on, I am told by Safari that "you are not connected to the internet." I went into system preferences, and tried to "automatically connect to Ethernet," but the auto connect always fails, forcing me to manually connect, in which I do not have the appropriate IP information on hand at the moment. Why would this fail all of the sudden? What can I do to fix it? I have tried restarting the computer multiple times, to no avail. I tried unplugging/replugging the ethernet cable, but nothing changed.

The PRAM battery can get close to death every four years, and with it, make the ports unavailable.  Replacing it, usually fixes the ports.

The keyboard and mouse still work, along with the monitor, which are all connected through ports. Does it make USB ports unavailable, or is it only certain ports like the Ethernet port?

First try a new ethernet cable. I've had them go bad, usually due to flexing where the cable meets the connector.

Make sure ethernet ports on the computer and the router/modem are clean.

Power-cycle the modem/router. Unplug the power cord for about a minute then reconnect. Wait anther minute or two for the device to reestablish communication with the outside world, then test.

Have you had any electrical storms? There are a number of reports here of lightning strikes during a thunderstorm taking out the ethernet port but leaving other ports undamaged.
