Q: Using recent 3rd party SSDs with intel XServe

I purchased a Samsung EVO Pro 256GB SSD with the hopes of using it as my system partition on an XServe 2,1 Early 2008. However, it doesn't seem to work - it is recognized as a 2,2TB disk in the Raid Utility, and never seems to be able to create a Raid Group nor a Volume.

I was wondering if there were any SSDs known to work with the XServe, or actually if anyone can point to some reading or information why simply installing an SSD in the tray wouldn't work as I assumed it was just a standard SATA connection? I feel like I am missing some basic technical background, coming from more typical desktop environments (or building PCs/servers with OEM hardware)

The XServe is a lovely machine, but it's notoriously fickle about what drives it will and won't work with. Initially it would only work with drives 'blessed' with Apple's firmware, although people have now reported success with other hard drives. I don't know of anyone that's got a working SSD in one, though.
