Q: macbook screen died when trying to recover the os X

Hello,

A friend of mine had a broken Macbook and he asked me to fix it. When i booted it, all it was displaying was just the apple logo and the little spinner you see when you boot your mac. I left it on for more then 8 hours, and it just stayed that way. I tried al the reset stuff (CMD+ALT + R), but it didn't change a thing. So I created a recovery flash drive with my iMac and tried to reinstall os x with it. I was trying to reinstall os x, but when i tried to enter the Wifi code, it froze and i had to boot again. this time it froze even sooner, and the last thing i noticed was the magsafe connector getting very hot. So I rebooted it without the charger, and then the screen is was all messed up and blocky. I letted it to rest a little time, and now the screen is normal again. What is this? I assume this isn't normal. Is the macbook just dead or is there something I can do?

kind regards,

First what year Macbook and what was the operating system installed? If you were trying to do internet recovery. Assuming you can. The command is-Command Option R.  If it has a recovery partition it's  Command R.  There you would go to utilities and run a check/ repair of the drive. If it overheated, you may have a defective fan. You could, if you have not already, try a SMC reset or a pram reset. What was the operating system on the flash drive? Did you install if from a DMG?  Newer Macbook's can run the newer operating systems. As in the late 2008 aluminum Macbook and newer. Some of the older ones can only run Snow Leopard or at most Lion. Can you boot it to safe mode. Shift key at startup. Or in a pinch boot to single user. Then after it is done scrolling run fsck -fy and keep running it till you see OK. Or it won't run it at all. Which could indicate a bad drive.
