Q: My iPhone 6s syncs to my iMac (10.11.3) using Bluetooth but not to my iMac using 10.6.8

My iPhone 6s syncs to my iMac using 10.11.3 but not to my iMac using 10.6.8. When I try to sync the iPhone to the older computer I get both codes on my iPhone and my computer but then it says the pairing was unsuccessful. I have tried the pairing options and none of them make any difference. I tried to find a specific code for my iPhone but it does not seem to have one. The older computer uses bluetooth for its keyboard with no trouble.I want to be able to send files and photos using bluetooth to my older computer as well as my new one.

iPhone 6s, iOS 9.3, iMac 10.6.8

An iPhone will not pair via Bluetooth to a computer (Mac or Windows) except for personal hotspot and then only if your cellular plan supports it. See the following for more information. https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-7722

If you are attempting to use AirDrop, that does involve Bluetooth but the devices are NOT paired; Bluetooth just needs to be on and the devices in range of each other. Note however that AirDrop will not work between an iPhone and a Mac that is older than a 2012 model. See the quote below from Use AirDrop to send content from your Mac - Apple Support

To send items to an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, you need a 2012 or newer Mac model with OS X Yosemite or later, excluding the Mac Pro (Mid 2012).
