Q: My Iphone / imessage / facetime keeps sending unauthorised sms'

Hi,

I use Apple products such as Iphone for ages. Eversince I have switch from provider to a new one (which does not have contract with apple), my Iphone keeps sending sms' to abroad without me knowing, untill I receive my invoice.

All messages are to an UK number. I have tried to find out which app is causing the problem. From reading issues from other users, I guess it is iMessage.

I only use my phone to sms not iMessage chats. All app are disabled, iMessage as well as FaceTime. How come these apps are still sending sms'? I have never authorised iMessage or any app to send sms'. Apple why is phone sending sms' without me knowing?

How can I block apps from sending sms' ? If anyone knows how, please let me know. It is rediculous that I have to pay for something I don't use. If apple likes making apps that sends messages, apple should pay the users bill.

If this issue can't be solved, then i need to consider using android.

Cheers,

A very frustrated iphone user

iPhone 5, iOS 9.2.1

No worries, I already have a galaxy s6 for weeks now. Just try to fix things first before bill is going up higher and higher.

    Wow, really?

wow, I thought when you go buying a house or in this case an Iphone you need to discuss terms or read the terms first before you sign the contract and pay the bill.. I guess I need to grow up man.

Come back when you are buying a house, then this will be relevant.

I have the same issue and this only appeared after the IOS 9.2 update.

I didn't change my carrier and I never saw this "sending SMS" at blocked paged.

    So, whats wrong?

I really think that this isn`t a carrier issue.

Let's verify that you have the same issue. Your phone periodically sends texts to a number in the UK (country code +44), and your carrier charges you for the SMS. Is this the issue that you have?

    Hi,

I dont know the number, because there are no registers on iMessage app.

I live in Brazil and my carrier dont charge my SMS, so this messages do not appear in my bill.

OK, so you don't have the same problem, which is the phone sends a text to a number in the UK and the user is charged for it.

You do not have a problem if you are not being charged for the SMS. The iMessage and Facetime servers need to know your phone number so they can route Facetime calls and iMessages to you when someone uses your phone number. To get this information the phone sends an SMS to Apple's server in the UK. This is normal, expected behavior.

You cant affirm that I dont have the same issue.

    The issue is: unauthorised sms.

We dont know the number that this messages were sent.

The carrier are not charging me because I have a good plan.

And... Why I didnt notice this "sending sms" screen before? My fioncee have an iPhone with the same carrier and this issue dont happen.

Send me a official documentation and I will try to believe you.

Why do you think I care whether you believe me or not? There is documentation on Apple's site, but I'll let you find it yourself, because I don't like your attitude.

I have the same problem. I was given an iPhone and was unpleasantly surprised when the first phone bill had a bunch of SMS to UK at 0.75 euros each. I find many of the responses given here unhelpful and unfriendly, like I need to accept without question whatever Apples does to me. No, I do not think it is reasonable to ask me to expect hidden and expensive SMS being sent without my authorization. Furthermore, it seems these are sent by Facetime and imessages which work just fine on my iPad without sending any SMS.  If the iPad can do its thing without using SMS why can't the iPhone do the same? In any case,  I would expect some simple way of disabling these SMS and fair warning before they are sent.

iPhone support carriers waive the fees for International SMS to enable iMessage & FaceTime.

I'll have been using iMessage & FaceTime since day one it was introduced and I do not get charged.

You have to talk to your carrier.

From: Use Messages with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

If Wi-Fi is unavailable, iMessages will be sent over cellular data. Carrier cellular data fees might apply.

Your iPad does not have a phone number where you can send and receive iMessages. Your iPhone does. Sending a text from that phone number is the only way to register it in the iMessage network.

Because the iPad is a data only device. It can't send SMS so, there's no need for any part of the messaging system to be told it needs, under certain circumstances, to use iMessage. You can expect whatever you want. However, that doesn't mean you'll get it. Also, no one here can do anything about this particular desire of yours.
