Q: How to restore an erased iPhone 5?

My screen cracked badly, so bad that I can't see 99% of the screen (just a bunch of colorful lines); therefore, it doesn't feel my finger either. I still get notifications but I can't see them or do anything with my phone, really. I'm getting my screen fixed tomorrow but before doing so, I wanted to back my phone up, which didn't work because iTunes said I needed to unlock my phone (which I couldn't do)! I ended up erasing my iPhone, thinking it was the same as resetting it, but I'm afraid I've deleted everything! Is there a way I can restore it now??

When you set up your new phone, you're given the choice to set up iCloud backup. It's not the phone's fault if you are not backing up what is precious to you. If the phone had been lost, stolen, or damaged, you would also have lost your precious data. It's not Apple's fault if you aren't using the tools you've been given.

Sorry, but unless it is still in your icloud you might have lost everything, also try setting up your iphone email with your gmail account, whatever that is backed up to your gmail should upload to your iphone, as well whatever is in your icloud.

Sorry no, all your data is gone if you erased your iphone, either way you still wouldn't be able to back up your phone with a cracked screen.

Not without an iCloud or iTunes backup. If no backup, then you just deleted everything on it. This is why it is so important to make backups (and keep them up to date) before a disaster strikes. After the damage is done, it's almost always impossible to backup the content.

I have been backing my phone up regularly. I plugged it into iTunes now, and it asks me if i want to restore my phone from the last backup (which was yesterday, although i didn't manually back it up yesterday). It's currently in the process of backing up, I just wanted to know if iTunes would give me that option, which it did. Follow up question: what does the backup save? Pictures? Contacts? Texts? Does it save my whatsapp chats, and games?

yes to pics, text and app data.

you sync your apps back via iTunes and your contacts with whatever email or icloud program you use to sync with.

That's good news then. Here are the details of the differences in what is backed up between iCloud and iTunes - About backups in iCloud and iTunes - Apple Support
