Q: I cannot restart my MacBook. When I try to start, I get a black screen w/note, in 5 languages, to restart but w/o success.

I've tried holding the option key down when I restart. An ikon of the hard drive appears but when selected the screen reverts back to black with note, in 5 languages,  to restart. I've also tried starting while holding down the command and r keys with the same result. What can I do to recover my hard drive?

Just to make sure we are talking about the same hardware, your MacBook is the MacBook Retina, early 2015, right? There has been some confusion within this MacBook "Community" leading to questions about MacBook Pros and older MacBooks.

Anyway, I'm sure that you are seeing the window that indicates a kernel panic. Apple has some support articles here and here. Maybe more helpful is this article.

Was there anything that you had recently done to the MacBook? Installing an Apple update or maybe even other software?

Solving kernel panics is often difficult and may be hard to troubleshoot here.

Are you covered by AppleCare? Did you buy the MacBook less than a year ago? For this new model that is fairly likely and you probably have AppleCare. Do you have access to an Apple Store or Apple authorized dealer? Getting professional help may be the best option.

I hope that you have a satisfactory back-up.

It would also help if you told us the version of OS X that you're using.
