Q: iMac (27-Inch, Late 2012) shutting down
HI,
I've contacted AppleCare 4 times now with tthe same fault and have got nowhere fast, I just seem to be getting passed from pillar to post so have decided to post my problem on here hoping someone may be able to shine a light?
MY iMac recently started shutting down intermittently, sometimes it would last 10 minutes, sometimes an hour, completely random. The only way to get the computer back on is to unplug the unit from the socket for 20seconds then plug it back in, the computer would then turn back on until it cuts out again.
Doing a little fishing I read that this could be a hardware issue with the System Management Controller which I told the support advisor at AppleCare. They seem very reluctant to book me in for a visit to the Genius Bar and have had me resetting, unplugging over and over again. The latest recommendation was to have me reload OSX onto my iMac and even though I told the agent that my computer would not stay on long enough to do this he told me to go ahead and all would be OK.
Of course the reload didn't last long before I lost all power again.
So now I have an expensive computer that will no longer boot up and stay on long enough to load up any software and a Genius Bar that is so fully booked up that no appointments are available for the foreseeable future!
Anyone else had this issue? I feel like I am banging my head on a brick wall.
Del.
