Mar 23, 2016 4:23 PM in response to ChitlinsCCby Demo,You are on a par with this user and his "user tip". Heck, he has more product specialty status than I do.
How to solve iOS 9.3 activation problem
I Love the fact that he is recommending downgrading. However, he is gaining status in ASC.

No smoke. Just a little teasing. But I am thinking that showing the icon under a user's avatar is a little misleading. As soon as you ask a question about a device, that device icon appears under your avatar. That is the first step in gaining "product specialty status". That makes no sense to me.

Mar 23, 2016 5:06 PM in response to Demoby ChitlinsCC,Not YOU, amigo! the draft I feel is this additional functionality when the same old glitches persist un-fixed - I have a trouble ticket 'moderated' by Hosts middlemen over missing 'followed' email notices for going on 3 months now! Phantom Posts also still persist, though less often. Aaarrrggghhh!
It does make NO sense... what happens when you get 10 of 'em? I just love the wording of some of the notices... reminds me of an old Donna Summer song...
How am * I * a specialist on iPad when I don't even own one??!!??
- I bookmark threads because I have been tasked by the 'engineers' to track threads that I fail to get email notices for - seems the only place everyone can see 'em is my bookmarks page - in thumbnail view so I can make notes
- Why would I start a discussion about something I am already "specialist IN" ??
- This is flat out false... I HAVE marked "This helped me" on many a post in many a thread = not the same thing

Mar 23, 2016 6:02 PM in response to pinkstonesby babowa,Also, I thought access to The Lounge was for Level 5 users and up — now it's Level 6?
It's not so much which level you're on (as they do change those occasionally) - you need 8,000 points: that is what counts (at least at the moment)....

Mar 23, 2016 6:04 PM in response to babowaby Demo,I understand how it works. I think it's stupid the way that it is fashioned to work. If someone asks a question, that starts them on the road to product specialty status. IMO, in order to be to be seen or ranked as product specialist, that is a perk that has to be earned by having extensive knowledge about the product not by asking questions about it. To me, that's quite the opposite of how it should work.

Mar 23, 2016 6:11 PM in response to Demoby Skydiver119,Yeah. To my mind to get product specialty status it should be geared towards getting a certain number of solved and helpfuls for answering questions, not just asking them. Once some folks realize that they'll have fun spamming just to ask questions and get points.

Mar 23, 2016 6:11 PM in response to Demoby babowa,I agree, but that is how they want it and that is how they've set it up. Bookmarking a discussion also shouldn't be "rewarded"; furthermore, why would you earn a reward for reporting someone - that one could result in an unnecessary flood and they may change their mind as it is open too abuse.
To wit: I don't know much all that much about iPads, but just asked a question there and it is now my "specialty". Really.

The thing that confuses me is that in the tutorial for Specialities, it doesn't say anything about getting a badge just for having someone mark your answer Helpful/Solved. It's not the end of the world or anything, it's just something interesting I'd like to participate in, but I'm just not sure how.
I think there is nothing about answers in the new badges because the reward for answers is already set as reputation points. Maybe Mods think badges too would be duplicative.

I think the blue line under the specialty badge is part of the Mods' answer. The more blue, the more proven the user?

Yes, I understand that. I still think that's it really.... as ChitlinsCC so eloquently put it, "bass-ackwards".
