Q: Bootcamp error on installation

So I have lived for a while with Windows 10 and the fact that I cannot access the bootcamp control panel, but it has got to a point where I need to fix it. I have Installed the newest drivers onto a clean formatted USB and then when I install I get some random, non-specific error and the installation continues as if it has completed, but the features are still unavailable.

"Windows Installer has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program."

Then another window

"Error"

Can you check a couple of existing Apple drivers and their versions?

I had the same problem with the pre-installed old Bootcamp Version 4.x

    This solution worked for me:

Step #1: Stop the services "Apple OS Switch Manager" and "Apple-Time-Server"

Step #2: Start Windows Explorer and go to folder "C:\Windows\system32". Delete the files  "AppleOSSMgr.exe", "AppleTimeSrv.exe" and "AppleControlPanel.exe" (admin rights needed)

Step #3: Reinstall Bootcamp 6 (just ignore Windows Installer Error)

they all look to be 4.0. No matter how many times I install bootcamp they always come out as 4.0 even if I have 6.0 on the usb.

After you run setup.exe, are you asked to reboot?

After I close error messages, installation finishes and asks to reboot. After reboot, bootcamp is still at 4.0 and not working.

Are there several error messages or just one? Usually the download of just the BC drivers does not get corrupted, but can you run BC Assistant (and assuming you have El Capitan), re-download the drivers using

    BC6-Assistant-Download-Software.png

and check the Product version before you run setup.exe?

    1. Are you logged in as Administrator of the Windows installation?

    2. Is your existing Windows account tied to a Windows Domain Controller?

    3. The second test is to create a new Windows account/user with Administrative rights and run the setup.exe from this new account and check if you get any error messages when setup.exe is run?

    4. Remove the RealTek folder from the Drivers folder on the USB and check if your error messages stop.

hey thanks for all your help.

Basically just went for the full on wipe and re install. The bootcamp driver installation looked and acted totally different afterwards. Even got the Realtek audio bug I have seen reported. Now all the drivers are installed and working.

    thanks again for your help.

Excellent. Please back up OS X, Windows and create a Windows Restore point.
