Q: Win XP (32 Bit) with iTunes 12.1.3.6: iPod Nano A1320 16GB Error: An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly.
I have the following environment:
Win XP SP3 (32 Bit)
iTunes 12.1.3.6
iPod Nano A1320 16GB (5th Gen)
I get an error when I try to connect my iPod Nano A1320 16GB (5th Gen):
An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly.
Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again.
If the problem persists, uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again.
I tried my other iPod Nano A1320 16GB (5th Gen), and it gives the same error.
I have looked at other similar posts with this error message and tried their solutions, but none of them seem to work.
However, my iPod Nano A1285 8GB (4th Gen) is recognized by iTunes 12.1.3.6.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help.

Since one of your iPods works with iTunes, it seems like iTunes is working properly. However, you may want to try reinstalling iTunes (if you have not already). With Windows XP (32-bit), this is the latest version
Download iTunes 12.1.3 for Windows (32 bit)
Try doing so without taking the steps to uninstall "iTunes and related software components" first. You should maintain a backup of your iTunes data (as a regular practice), but reinstalling the iTunes application should not affect your iTunes data. If that still does not help (or you already tried it), you may need to take the steps to more completely remove "iTunes and related software components" first, before reinstalling iTunes. This is Apple's document; it's for Windows 7 and later
Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows 7 and later - Apple Support
but the overall procedure is the same, namely remove the listed components in the described order. Then reinstall the latest available version of iTunes.
