Q: hide unwanted updates in app store

I've continually got 5 updates nagging me in the App Store - RAW updates for cameras I will never own and the latest iMovie and iWork offerings that I don't want.

There must surely be a simple way to hide these unwanted updates and to turn off the constant notifications and nags about these updates…

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

Right click on the update in the App Store and choose "Hide"

Thanks for the quick response - but I've tried that. If I right-click anywhere or on any item in the updates page nothing happens.

hmmm. Try right clicking on the App under the Purchased tab instead.

I've just signed-in to the App Store and selected the Purchased tab. From there I can see that I have 3 iWork apps and iMovie awaiting update. There is nothing showing about the RAW Camera update - logically, as I've never purchased this.

I hover over iMovie and can select Hide Update…

I've done this and the iMovie update has gone from the Purchased tab, but is still visible on the Updates tab. Closing and re-opening the App Store doesn't change this.

So I've still got these 5 apps nagging me for update and I've lost the iMovie entry in the Purchased tab. How do I make this visible again? The option Show All on the App Store menu tab is greyed-out.

The RAW Camera update is part of the OS and wouldn't be listed. Nor can you "hide" it or other OS updates as far as I know. iMovie is also part of the OSX updates.

    what are the other 3?

edit: I guess you can hide OS updates.

What version of the App Store are you using? I have no "Show All" option in the App Store.

The other 3 are: Pages 5.6.1, Numbers 3.6.1 amd Keynote 6.6.1. iMovie update is 10.1.1 and the RAW update is 6.18. I have no need for the RAW update and hate the later iLife/iWork apps, preferring instead iMovie 9.0.9, Pages 4.3, Numbers 2.3 and Keynote 5.3.

I see. Well as long as you are aware the three you prefer are not 100% OSX 10.11 compatible have at it. Updates are offered for a reason.

As mentioned above, if I right-click anywhere on the update page - in white space, on the entry, on the logo etc - nothing happens. Certainly no Hide Update option.

    My AppStore is version 2.1 (459)Screen Shot.png

Do you actually have updates pending or are you right clicking on previous updates?

    just checking.

some click on the body text, and it wont work if you do that.

you may have to click the "more" box and extend the window

if all that isn't working reboot and try again.

I have all these updates available.

These have been available for weeks, during which time I've rebooted the MacBook plenty of times with no change. I've tried clicking the More… option and then right-clicking everywhere, but nothing provides a Hide Update option.

are you on a standard account or admin account?

if you are not on an admin account switch to that

if you are on an admin account create a new admin account and boot to it. Can you hide the updates on that new account?
