Mar 22, 2016 5:41 PM in response to martin Fassby martin Fass,If this might help clarify what could be wrong... This morning I added another email account to handle via Mail on this machine, then decided to cancel and remove it. That's when I lost the capability to send mail from my usual and otherwise only mail account.

Mar 23, 2016 5:38 AM in response to martin Fassby martin Fass,This morning I've added another account and for this one I now CAN send out. But not from my own account. Something went awry with the password, possibly? Your help is requested, please--

Mar 23, 2016 6:57 AM in response to martin Fassby Klaus1,Make a careful note of all the entries for that account, then delete it. Restart Mail. Create a new account with those entries. Restart Mail.
Working now?

Mar 23, 2016 7:51 AM in response to Klaus1by martin Fass,Klaus and Eric, many thanks to you. Everything is now back to normal! Though I am ashamed to say I don't know how I achieved that!!
I did try to focus on your advice and recommendations, both of you, My excuse for not maintaining a careful record of what I changed or corrected in terms of passwords or other settings is that we've been in the midst for a second week now dealing with failures of landline service for both a home phone and a medical office business line...and I've spent untold hours on that.
Best to you--I know in the whole scheme of things in this world of ours, MY headaches are genuinely trivial.

Mar 24, 2016 8:31 AM in response to Eric Rootby martin Fass,How good and encouraging it is to have this support resource! Here's hoping it continues to survive in the best of health, no matter what happens to our economy, and regardless of who occupies the White House.
(I speak as one who just spent who knows how many hours with our land lines phone company FOR ONE DAY SHORT OF TWO WEEKS and finally the service is, knock on wood, restored. Knocking on wood because their "solution" was to switch from bad wiring to a few spares that have been sitting on the board in our building basement for who knows how many decades in case of such a failure. As they used to say in a Milt Gross comic strip, "Is diss a SYSTEM???"
