Q: ios9 update -> now touchscreen problems

Ever since I updated to ios 9, my iphone 5s touchscreen is acting crazy.  The accuracy of where I touch or slide vs. what the iphone thinks I did is completely off.  The phone seems to have a mind of its own too, it starts opening apps and stuff when I'm not even touching it.  Then other times it freezes completely for 5-10 minutes.  It is nearly impossible to shut it off because it won't swipe when I initiate the turn off screen.  The home button works fine.  Every once in a while the phone will act normal for like 15 minutes and then it goes crazy again!!  Anyone else??  This just started a couple days ago after I did the ios 9 update.

I have the same problems too but mine out of no where stop responding to touch. I have  already done all that was written above to do and my phone was still having major touching problems . It will not allow me to tocuh the screen at all. You would think that when you make a huge investment in something that is advertised by Apple as one of the best phones that something as simple as the being able to touch the screen would ******* work. Apple gave me no help what's so ever . On top of paying full price for a messed up phone and Apple tells me I have no other option besides switching my phone out. I wasn't worried because that kind of problem cost Apple nothing and they would be able to fix the problem and easily resell it. But no, after giving me no other option Apple says my warranty has passed a year by a couple of months and they cant help me because they want to be fair. I see Apple replacing iPhone with HORRIBLE conditions and others that are 2-3 years passed warranty but refused to replace mine. On top of paying full freakinf price for a **** phone they wanted me to pay half that to switch it out when they have usually always switch it out even if it passed the warranty by a couple of months . It would only be a couple months not a full 2 years. My brother went in to complain about iPhone and it was passed warranty and Apple told him to he would replace it for him. Apple is very unfair & I am very unhappy with this kind of service . Worst service I have ever had in my life . Leaving a customer phone less because all you want it to make her lose money when billions of other people are getting their phones replaces no cost. Worse serves , beyond upset . Never going to buy another one of their products and the same with my family because of how unfair they treated me.

Bought my phone November 2014, and now seeing the same behavior for the past 3 months. Unfortunately, since I'm now out past of the 1 year warranty, I'm completely hosed with a defective phone. I've refreshed the phone to a previous version with no luck. Toggled with Siri and touch ID options with no luck. Spoke with credit folks for warranty extension with no luck (because it was done through AT&T monthly vs. 1 entire payment). Went back to Apple Store again and zero help. This is completely unacceptable and I can't believe Apple has yet to address this in any sort of way. I've literally brought my 4s back out to use since that was still working.

The iPhone 6 64gb is unusable -- screen is unresponsive or has a mind of its out. I can't pick up calls. I can't tap into apps. It sometimes works after turning off and on, but very short-lived period of success. Even worse, it opens up apps randomly, swipes or types too. Yes, it will do random Facebook friend requests too.

"Are you sure you want to turn it on? That's risky business" -- A friend, after watching the phone go haywire and randomly select things

Gotten spurious touchscreen input a few times on my iPhone 5s in the past with iOS 9 versions (scrolling was extremely unstable in particular) but it seemed to go away until I upgraded to 9.3 yesterday. This morning I watched as it slowly typed out and sent "WowWwowwow" to a friend, ignoring my attempts to intervene. Guess it could've been a lot worse! A reset seems to have resolved things, at least for the moment.

After upgrading iPhone 6 to ios 9.3 unresponsive touchscreen occured.

First swipe to unlock is impossible 5-7 of 10 times tried.

IF I managed to unlock screen than it was unresponsive at all or for example when pressed mail icon , comtacts are opening or something else. But mainly screen is unresponsive.

Apple answer was to contact my carrier ( Tele2).

Tele 2  said that I must contact Apple back because problem is with software or device and not their mobile net.  In second conversation with Apple  ,  advice was similar : please contact Apple service provider in your country.

Apple service here  said that I have to bring and leave iPhone on repair.

And all of that because I have upgraded to ios 9.3, and iphone is almost unusable because 5-7 times of 10, I am not able to unlock screen , and even if screen unlocking is successful screen is not responsibe to touch.

    Any solutions on sight ?

Snap. On an iPhone 6 here and ever since the 9.3 update the screen becomes unresponsive 3, 4, 5 times a day.

Turning the phone to sleep and waking it fixes the problem. Until the next time.

This is the first ever update problem I've ever had after 3 iPhones.

Is anyone still having this issue? It's April 2016, and it's still not resolved (for me at least ._.). Contacted apple on the chat after weeks of frustration, they told me to try reset which I'd already done, and they've not set up a call with a senior adviser for later today. Reading all these posts I have little hope it'll be resolved for me, as I also have no warranty on my 5S. This is ridiculous, and if it's not resolved I'm definitely going to be going to Microsoft/Samsung for a new phone as this problem dates back to last year with no result. Has anyone found a fix?

I left my iphone at Apple repair service , as Apple customer service suggested . Next day they have called and said that everything is ok , they couldnt find any problem at all.

Long story short : my iphone6 is still unusable. Sometimes screen respond to touch , but mostly don't.
I noticed one thing: as batery percentage is low,  screen freezes less. When phone is fully charged, screen is freezed almost all the time.

So , now I have Samsung galaxy s7 edge and I am pleasently surprised.  That phone is 5 star  smartphone.

iPhone 6 must go again to Apple repair service. I will leave it to them as long as it needs to find error .

I will never again buy again another iPhone. This was / is very expensive smartphone, I have bought it network unlocked for full price . I will keep it for spare backup smartphone. Because for me, smartphone is 24/7 bussines gadget / office on the move.

I just spoke to a senior adviser at apple and he said it's a hardware issue (I have a very small crack next to the home button, nowhere near where anywhere on the screen where I'd touch and it was working wonderfully until I upgraded). I asked him if its a coincidence my phone worked perfectly until the update, and that so many people have this problem and he said everyones phones must have hardware issues. He told me to take it to an apple store (nearest is 4 hours away) and pay for a replacement phone/repair so they can get to the bottom of the issue. Won't be buying apple again. I wouldn't be so angry if he hadn't treated me like a complete idiot on the phone. Samsung it is!

I had same issues with iPhone 6 beginning with the first version of iOS9 last summer.  At first it just wouldn't respond to touches at all, and simply locking and unlocking resolved the problem.  With each successive "update" it got worse until, eventually, it got to the point where it was completely useless.  Couldn't make calls, answer calls, open apps, etc.  As a long-time professional in the computer business, understanding the link and interaction between hardware and software, I used every bit of knowledge of my 29 years of experience to ATTEMPT to fix the problem multiple times -- from a complete wipe and rebuild from the ground up, to re-downloading apps just in case one had a 'bug' causing the problem, etc.  MULTIPLE times!  Absolutely NOTHING could resolve the problem.  Fortunately, I had a phone service contract with Asurion (thru ATT) and I opened a claim on the touch-screen not working.  They approved the claim, then were quite prompt to send me a NEW iPhone 6 in sealed factory box the very next day!  BUT THE BEST PART is:  it came with iOS8 installed, and I haven't had a lick of a problem since receiving it!  And, oh yeah, I am REJECTING all the prompts which pop up URGING an "upgrade" to the latest version of iOS9.x.x.x!  I have a sneaky gut feeling that if I do the previous problems will reoccur.  So the heck with iOS9 "update" on the iPhone 6.  Something isn't kosher here and I'm quite sure APPLE knows it -- but the "fix" would either be way too expensive money-wise and/or PUBLICITY-wise to admit it.  I'm saddened by Apple's stance on this, period; thought they actually cared about their customers.  Now I know better, and so do you.  And this concludes my professional 2-cents worth on the subject.

I Have had this problem for the past few months I have since figured out that when it freezes It will start working with a respring or if I let it sit there for a while I have done extensive research and the other day I payed $129.99 to Apple to put a new touchscreen on my iPhone 6 16gb iPhone ever since this repair the issue has continued to persist and I have gone to a CPR phone repair store and they told me it was the touch digitizer on the motherboard of the iPhone and there was modles of made where this component was not soldered correctly when the iphones where made these models were made around November of 2015 and apple tries to deny it but Apple should give a full reimbursement to the people and because of apples stubborness I will probably go buy a galaxy s7 thanks but no thanks apple

Had this problem for the last 3 months.  Last night when it called an ex girlfriend that was in my contacts from 10 years ago literally 5 times and then Facetimed my boss twice WHILE i was picking up someone at SFO who was calling me but I couldn't answer because the screen was frozen while these ghost calls were being made, I realized I couldn't take it anymore.  So today, I went to the Apple Store in suburban SF and they replaced my screen for $129.  (Out of warranty on an iPhone 6 plus running 9.3.2).  So far it's working well...If it does fail, they then will give me another one wrapped in a box for no additional charge).

    1. I am also now officially part of the unresponsive screen club. The unresponsiveness started after I installed latest ios version. I have gone through all the regular options. Hard reboot, restore from cloud, restore using itunes, setup as new iphone from itunes etc. Nothing has worked for more than a few hours or few days in some cases. I noticed that putting the phone in battery saving mode helps to reduce the frequency of these occurrences. I went to the genius bar twice and both times I was told that it is a hardware issue. The guy who was supposedly helping me was so eager to categorize it as a hardware issue. Right when he was trying to get me out of his hair another person stopped by with the same issue on a recently replaced phone. Even then he was adamant that it was a hardware issue though he had the decency to appear uncomfortable. J It could be a hardware issue but it coinciding with the ios update for so many folks leaves with two options in my mind. 1. The latest software is not optimized for pre 6S versions or we all ended up with a bum batch. Either way, I believe it is Apple’s responsibility to fix it. I wonder why Apple does not even acknowledge existence of this issue.
