Q: FCP file corrupt?

Having a problem that I haven’t seen before on FCP 10.2.2

I’ve built a project/library and I think it’s faulty.

Each time I load the library, most/all of the items in the timeline show as “Missing Camera”.

If I REIMPORT one of the files used in the timeline it reconnects everything.

It seems now that the project is larger, I need to reimport several random files (all of which are used in the timeline) to reconnect everything successfully.

Once re-connected, I can edit, but each time I restart the library (beginning of each day) I need to relink as described.

ALSO - I cannot export (everything in the “share” menu is grayed out.)

I also tried exporting an XML file and tried building a new library/project with it. The export seemed to work, but upon import, I received tons of errors and everything is strange in the new timeline.

Looking into it further, I’m noticing that when I click on a video in the media bin and look at the “location” in info window, it displays differently than I’ve seen before. Typically, (I checked other libraries) it’ll display the drive and a “reveal in finder” button is avail. In this case, the path shows as “/Volumes/drive name/rest of path.

Also the reveal in finder button is grayed out.

When I click on a item in the media bin and try to relink files, the window is blank as if there’s no missing file to reconnect.

Help!

How do you organize your media? Do create a copy of your camera's card? When you import do you store the clips in the library or leave in place? Do you optimize when you import, after import in the Browser, or not at all?

we organize media in folders by episode > shoot day > reel. There is also a separate folder in in each shoot day for audio.

we shoot this show on q gh4 and record audio with a 744.

We do onset copies as each card is full.  we copy the data (with the same hierarchy) to a raid and also to a external usb HD (there's one of these per episode)

later in the day,the data from the usb drive is copied to a 2nd raid, which is offsite.

once all data is confirmed, the cards are deleted.

I usually edit using the usb drive on my MacBook.

I Make a library for each episode and put it in the episode's root in the episode folder.

As I progress in the edit, I'll Copy the library to the raids as well. When the episode is finished, all three drives will have the same library.

Everything in tge library is of course pointing to the data on the usb drives. I haven't lost a drive since filing like this, but if I did lose a usb drive I could just open a copy of the lib on the raid and relink

I Don't know what optimize is.
