Q: URLs not working in Safari or Mail after iOS 9.2.1

After updating my iPad Air 2 iOS 9.2.1, I experienced Safari crashing when trying to open a new tab. I solved this problem by disabling Search Engine Suggestions and Safari Suggestions in Settings, as recommended. However now, if I've done a search, I cannot open any of the links in that search. If I type a specific URL in the Search Box, then I can open the page, but am unable to sign in, use any links from that page, etc. Also, I find that I am unable to open any URL links that I receive in Mail and tapping on a link then locks up Mail... I have done a full sync to my iMac, which can sometimes rectify a problem, but it hasn't helped in this instance.

Has anyone else experienced this?

There's a parallel thread about this problem in the iPhone forum

This post says that Apple is aware of the problem and will release a fix soon. Fingers crossed.

Hope it's an actual announcement from Apple, because this morning it struck my iPhone, while I did nothing except upgrading to ios 9.3 yesterday... Would it corrupt some files or create weaknesses that enable this bug?

Hi, the problem is not linked to iOS 9.2.1, or iOS 9.3 as I suddenly had this problem appeared on an iOS 9.0.2 iPhone 6s Plus 128.

Same here - updated to iOS 9.3 yesterday evening on my iphone 6 plus, and today safari browsing is out of order - links do not open and some freezes the safari app. Removing browser history and resetting does not help. Unbelievable experience with a premium device basicly running most practical aspects of my life. Time for a fall-back device or ...

you can just ask your iPhone to be replaced at the AppStore. the more people do it, the more Apple will take care of the problem.

After lots of issues invoving the 9.3 update my hyperlinks are not working either in safari or chrome.

SO I have resolved this by using a small laptop instead of my ipad

i am finished with these flakey Apple products back to android for tablets.

I'm having same problem on my iPad air 2. It was working fine until yesterday when this problem happened. I haven't upgraded to 9.3, I have tried reset, etc but problem not resolved.

To everyone reading this and experiencing this bug make sure to login and follow the 4 different apple support forums that are discussing / covering this issue. As the email updates come in, it generates more content. In time as this continues to snowball lets hope it hits one of the few devs at Apple that can comment.

is everyone experiencing this issue also unable to open links within the Notes app?

Trouble started 2 days ago before 9.3 upgrade. I disabled Javascript and can click links in Safari but it is still broken in mail and in messages. I was hoping the update would fix the issue but it has not. So frustrated right now!

    TEMPORARY SOLUTION:

Go to Settings->Safari->Advanced and disable Javascript.

This solves this issue until Apples comes up with a fix. However, disabling Javascript introduces some other issues on some javascript dependent web pages, so it is not the optimal solution.

Maybe interesting info. I downloaded Firefox for IOS to use as a alternative browser. When clicking on a link it doesn't do anything, BUT the open link in new tab DOES work. However the open link in new private window doesn't work.

Well, I am pleased I found this thread, I thought this would be an easy fix, but it turns out not. I have multiple Apple devices but the most important one being my wife's IPhone 6. This is needed for her work as she is a community health worker. This is the one that has developed the link fault, she is running 9.2.1. I have tried everything listed above to no avail. This needs to fixed Apple, this really isn't good enough as people now rely on these devices. The reason we choose the apple brand in the first place is... "IT JUST WORKS". I fear this is not the case anymore!
