Q: 9.3 update set a passcode which wasn't there before

Hi. My dad updated his iPhone 6 to the new software yesterday.....now before this he never used a passcode on his phone. He had one when he first got the phone but soon disabled it and didn't use the passcode feature.

However since updating to 9.3 the iPhone is now asking for a passcode and the original one he had is not working. I really don't want to restore his phone but I don't know what else to do. I can access his iCloud account via my MacBook but that doesn't help.

Any solutions, I've heard a few people have experienced this since the update.

If none of the solutions suggested work for you - then bring it into Apple or an authorized repair center

Thanks. I am trying to avoid a restore at the moment as it's my Dad's 60th birthday today and the phone has been locked since last night so he hasn't seen any messages sent to him today and they won't be in any back up either.

We have finished the activation and set up process - but there's a passcode and we have no idea what it is.

If you or he have access to a computer where the phone has been backed up to iTunes then using that computer for he restore - will cause that computer to offer to backup the phone before the wipe
You can then restore the backup with the associated content

Thanks - he's only ever backed up using iCloud.
