Q: iPhone 6S Plus no longer showing in Photos on Macbook for sync/photo import

I used to be able to just plug iPhone via sync cable to my Macbook Pro to import new pictures and sync with my Macbook Photos album but recently when I plug in the cable I am only able to sync via iTunes. iTunes recognizes the cable and allows me to sync but Photos on my Macbook does not recognize the iPhone any longer. Used to work fine in the past but now it is no longer working. i tried restarting computer  and switching USB ports on my Macbook pro but still have this problem. iPhone 6S + is running version 9.2.1 and Computer is running version 10.10.5

In my Photos on my computer I have several different Albums for where I have separated various pictures into different Albums of which I usually drag pictures into prior to syncing. I sync usually after I import photos from iPhone to Macbook Pro but now I can not import any more as Photos is not recognizing my iPhone. At times it recognizes the iPhone for a fe seconds and starts to load up pictures from iPhone on my Macbook but then after a few seconds it vanishes.

iPhone 6s Plus, iOS 9.2.1
