Q: iOS 9.3 - Safari/Mail freezes after clicking links on iPhone 6S

Hi,

Never had any problems with my iPhone 6S. Just upgraded to iOS 9.3 without any issues. After the upgrade, I can't click links when searching something on Google in Safari or clicking a link in the Mail, the apps just freeze.

I tried clearing Safari history data/cache, closing all apps and restarting the phone (both regular and holding both home/power key), disabling all sorts of settings form Safari settings, but no luck.. Anyone with an idea how to sort it out?

I can't believe Apple is not issuing a statement on this. A widespread issue with iOS device rendering them useless, and they keep silent. Clearly as to avoid drawing attention to the problem. But this is bad... really bad. Especially as it seems to happen on both iOS 9.2 and 9.3 on multiple hardware configurations.

I'm wondering if it might be related to Daylight Savings Time that started today (at least in Europe). Would explain why everything worked fine the first days of iOS 9.3. And Apple does have a long track record of issues with the clock and DST.

Indeed, the bug seems to be somehow linked to the DST and not just the 9.3 update. Amazing how such a basic element of software, probably, keeps causing issues

Regarding the last post re daylight saving I can be very specific - I was using my iPhone (6s running iOS 9.3) at the time of the change 01:00 GMT which was working fine prior to the change. Once the time had auto updated to 02:00 literally the first link I used broke it - and it hasnt worked since. All browsers I have installed are affected although can copy and paste the link using chrome which is my workaround for now. Would really be expecting comment from Apple soon though!!

I have just tried solving it by setting back the date one week, but it didn't work.

I have a three days old iPhone 6s 64GB, which until this morning worked fine. The only thing I did this morning was installing the Booking.com app but I can't imagine that is causing it. Uninstalled the app anyway.

Reverting to 9.2.1 isn't working either as iTunes says there is no connection with the update server because the internet connection is down. Which it isn't. (If Apple cannot fix problems sooner, the revert process should be much easier by the way.)

Usually I wait about a week or so before updating, now I got overexcited because of my new phone. Stupid me.

I've been an Apple user for over 10 years, but it's getting harder and harder to be a happy Apple user. I've had a lot of trouble with different devices, which I could maybe accept, if it wasn't for the complete lack of information/communication. Apple are so arrogant towards their customers when they've screwed up.

Updated to 9.3 on both the iPad and iPhone 6. iPad working ok.  However, the iPhone worked ok until today.  Now can connect to the wifi cannot get Safari to work.  Can enter website but cannot open the link.

Hhave tried all the suggested ideas, except restoring.  Nothing works.

What is worse: the problem exists and is known since January.

People have been complaining about this for a long time. And still they decided to role out the 9.3 update, even when they obviously didn't fix it for 9.2.1 users having this problem already.

I've read somewhere that someone suspects 3D touch functionality to be the cause. Tomeranaray talks about numerous time related issues.

I think more in line of certificates being out of date somewhere. Mainly because the non-secure page of Google is working fine: http://www.google.com/webhp?nord=1

iOS 9.3, Iphone 6. A smartphone that costs 800 Euros do not need to open a link, and browsing the Internet. Steve Jobs would fire all. Shame!

Update Easter Sunday iPhone 6S 128G All Links in Safari and via Apple Apps Working iOS 9.3

    1) Bing Fix did not work

    2) JavaScript disable / re-enable did not work

    3) Turn on / off Content Blocking did not work

    4) Multiple Hard Reset(s) no change

    5) Never had Booking.com app can't remove

What worked is A Complete Factory Reset using with NO BACKUP. Meaning using an iPhone 6S 128g is not a hardware issue. It is not an Apple update issue per se, it is some 3rd party apps that change or affect initialization of Safari via hyperlinks. It is a 3rd party App issue that was not caught in QA. Phone is restored with Keychain, but no 3rd party apps added. Did not restore, simply factory reset, and running iOS 9.3 all is working great...

I still believe it may be something to do with content blocking/apps, but not sure. I just can't believe you can have 3rd party apps update how pop-ups and code displays without causing a glitch after a significant upgrade...

Will begin slow process of updating app by critical app to see what did it.  GOOD LUCK!

IT IS booking.com causing it. Delete the app and restore the iPhone as new and your problem will be gone. In my experience, it's booking and Wikipedia causing this whole mess. Delete both and restore as new, not from backup. Hope this helps you, as it did me

Same problem here on my iPad Air, iPhone 6s ok so far, cannot open any links in mail or open links in news. iPad freezes up. i added iso 9.3 on Friday  started having problems sat night. Apple please fix this, I use my iPad for everything. Apple just sent me a email welcoming me to discussions but I can't even open there link inside the email. I tried turning of Java script and pop up blockers but it didn't help me, as some others said it did them.
