Q: These new-fangled awards

How, exactly, are these supposed to work?  I read the tutorial for them several times, and yet when I uploaded a third avatar (as I'd only uploaded two), the badge for that particular achievement has yet to be colored in.

Also, I thought access to The Lounge was for Level 5 users and up — now it's Level 6?

Others may have a different point of view, particularly if it might encourage frivolous reporting. There is however a reporting badge you can earn. In fact I see you have it already.

I had considered that... no points for "Inappropriate post" should solve that - the other stuff is clearly 'housekeeping/middleman' stuff

I report often for relocation... Using ASC forum seems a catch-all for a myriad of issues. I have thought about just letting them sit there, but my conscience would bother me!

I'd still like to know why asking questions is part of becoming a "Specialist" in a given topic.  I'm not going to just submit a stupid question like, "What does El Capitan mean in English" just so I can tick off another requirement.  Can't the Hosts or whomever go back and look at how many Helpful/Solved posts you've made in any given section?  Wouldn't that better attest to whether or not you were a "Specialist" in that topic than adding a picture to your posts would?

I don't get it either, but obviously the system has to run automatically. The site runs on Jive which includes the support for the gamification features which can act on events that can be detected as you post and others respond. Personally I'd like it if the only events that counted were those that involve helping others. I can jump through hoops and ask a few questions if I have to, but I'd really rather not. Adding an image to a reply is at least something I normally do from time to time.

At least that's what we say in "polite company", but everybody is clear about what we *really* mean

I Like that reply - "your conscience would bother you!" You never know when you can help somebody else do you - frivolous, stupid or whatever,  some of us really do need help sometimes :-(

I Don't recall saying anything to the contrary. If I did, I apologize. I have learned more from my participation in ASC than I would have ever imagined.

These badges seem a symptom of Apple becoming a big company.  This idea somehow got on some management chart. Maybe as a way of fixing poor rating gathered from these forums.  So it's now something tracked to be done.  Now some manager has an accomplishment to report.  Never mind if it was useful.

I couldn't believe that the announcement required double scrolling.  Hasn't apple learned that double scrolling is bad?

I'd focus on fixing these forum and making them easier to use.  The number one thing for me would be to add a create a new post button.  I spend five minutes trying to make a post in the ipad discussion. You would think I could do this being level 5.  It got me a badge.

You have hit the nail on the head, I fear.

Ill winds blow also = 3rd party instead of JiveWare stock feature?

Apple is using components from Badgeville: https://badgeville.com/

Just a thought, but if you're using custom CSS that might have broken an otherwise acceptable layout. I don't see any need to double scroll from here.

I think what's going on is there is an award for the first time you report a post. But I see what you mean... you don't get any points for doing it or anything else after the first time.
