Q: iOS 9.3 - Safari/Mail freezes after clicking links on iPhone 6S

Hi,

Never had any problems with my iPhone 6S. Just upgraded to iOS 9.3 without any issues. After the upgrade, I can't click links when searching something on Google in Safari or clicking a link in the Mail, the apps just freeze.

I tried clearing Safari history data/cache, closing all apps and restarting the phone (both regular and holding both home/power key), disabling all sorts of settings form Safari settings, but no luck.. Anyone with an idea how to sort it out?

That's what the Apple support staff told me, but I don't have a lot of faith that they really know what is going on at the mo'. If they did, I'm sure it would have been fixed by now. I'm no tech genius, but it seems strange that a server issue affects only certain users. Like thaleb, my phone is currently useless (coincidentally after an iOS update), but my children and partner (with the same model devices that have been updated on the same date) are unaffected.

I can confirm that I have this links-not-working issue on an iPhone 6 and iPad Air. In both cases the issues started a few days after upgrading to iOS 9.3. Two other devices with iOS <9.3 remain unaffected. Deactivating JavaScript helped for a short time, but the issue returned. Now what shall I do with an “ internet communicator ", when the basic function of the web won't work ...?!

    • That's not exactly true That a server related issue would affect everyone. we could have ram conflicts caused by rogue apps that others don't have. Or a sequence of app installations. Both my kids phones were bought in Dubai therefore their Facetime is disabled when in the UK.  Their ROM is different to other phones. I moved from one European country on saturday to London for 4 days.  I cannot tell whether this problem would have happened back home. I will find out on Wednesday by reinserting that country's sim chip. but I can say this:- Apple has caused me enormous headaches. Even typing this post it keeps pasting the link held in the cache into the text. It keeps capitalising letters when I don't want it to. It won't let me edit by holding and pressing on a letter. It is sh.  Since 2014, Apple's software updates has bricked 1 iPad mini and 2 iPhone 4 s. That's admitted by them too. 1800 pounds in the bin. I have fought for sometimes up to 4 hours on the phone with Apple for them to finally give up and send me "an exception" offer of replacement at the local Apple Store. When I got there they said privately that there is currently a  "no exception policy is in force". Let's see them change their minds when this problem blows up for Amazon and FB users

they have to be the most arrogant company on the planet

I do believe Apple are not aware lot of people do not have an iPhone as a toy, but a tool. For people working out in the field the iPhone is often as important as a screw driver still is. Therefor people have spent most of the Easter holiday to get ready for Tuesday after Easter being able to do their job. Think about how many hours spent for nothing.

Anyhow I still regret I was selecting an Apple device (iPhone 6) when i had the choice. Now too late......Grrr.

Here is what i tried and can somewhat can survive with, but this is not a fix !:

    1. Installed Microsoft Outlook.

    2. In the settings:

Open links with: Select Google Chrome or Firefox (Not Safari)

(Could not find these settings in the rotten Apple mail)

    3. Linking in a browser:

(Googel Chome and Firefox) use Bing as search engine and evt. select/hold links until Pop-up and select "Open in a new fan"

              go to the new fan.

Still Easter Monday here, too, so I was a bit surprised that someone took my call (inside 5 mins as well!). However, it's not like it did me any good . I'm travelling interstate, with all my airline tickets, hotel bookings, car rental and airport paking stored on my (non-functioning) phone. Serves me right for having too much faith in digital technology. As I said to Apple, given they can't give me a timeframe, I'm going to have to hunt down the hotel's office support and revert to good old paper print-outs.

SO basically you gave up and were nice with them as we are ALL forced to be. Firstly they cleverly created a captive market. Then Jobs passed. Now with 6 directors on 30 mill a year each minimum they are treating us like sheep. They won't be sorry either because basically we ARE sheep!

Its obvious to me that this is a monumental issue for Apple.  Their attitude  the problem is derisory and insufficient.

An event such as this requires disclosure and openness, Apple techs have replied individually to some here that have concacted the help dept, but the company needs to make an announcement in relation to this collosial mess.

There are thousands of Apple users who because of their technical inability will not know even where to start in correcting this problem.

There appears actually to be no correction.  What is required is a fix to the update and Apple have been very slow to face the problem head on.

Apple competitors must be rubbing their hands in glee over this classic own goal, their inability and incompetence is astonishing.

There are several similar threads on this Forum with hundreds of comments and tens of thousands of views and still no announcement from the company.

Yes, please tell me that this will be fixed soon.  I was looking to switch back to 9.2 but that is all such a hassle.  I'm very disappointed and my friends with Samsung are laughing at me. ' Told you not to get an iPhone'.  Let's see how fast this will be fixed, it's Monday 28 March... mmmm
