Q: why did the last update slow my MacBook pro down so much

why did the last update slow my MacBook pro down so much? What could have been  in the last El Capitan update to slow my Mid 2010 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro down so much?   It has never run this slow before! Everything is taking longer across the board. Could I have done something wrong during the download and install?  If so is there any way to force a re-install of the last update?

I'm not sure if I can restore back past an update of that size. Is anyone else having similar problems or have any thoughts on what might be wrong? I know this is far from a state of the art Macbook Pro. But it was running just fine before the last update.

Any thoughts would really be appreciated. I can't really afford to buy something newer right now.

     Thanks

downloaded and ran it. Not real clear on how to upload the results.

It either automatically copies the results to the clipboard or it has a button to copy.

Then, paste that into a reply here.

    Hi Hmbgeno:

EtreCheck opens in TextEdit. So from the top menu in TextEdit, under Edit tab, select "Select All", then "Copy", then paste it into the reply window.

What version of El Capitan were you running before?

It is possible you have something installed which is incompatible with an update, but somewhat rare.

It may have just been a problem with the update being installed and running the Combo Update may fix the issue.

Download OS X El Capitan 10.11.4 Combo Update

A Combo updater has all of the updates from the beginning of major version (.1 thru .4 in this case). If something failed to update correctly in one of the previous updates, and the current update needs to update that, it might not be able to. So, running the Combo will correct a problem like that. However, the need for that type of fix has decreased quite a bit.

       Hi

Guess it' possible that one of the earlier updates got glitch while loading. Good thought.

I did go up and download the newest El Capitan from the a

Apple website and installed it. Took about the same amount of time as the original. As close when it was finished and rebooted it showed no outstanding updates. From that I assumed it included all of the updates including the last one that started all the slowdown and a whole lot of beachball time.

But it could be worth a shot.

Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a try.
