Q: iOS 9.3 - Safari/Mail freezes after clicking links on iPhone 6S

Hi,

Never had any problems with my iPhone 6S. Just upgraded to iOS 9.3 without any issues. After the upgrade, I can't click links when searching something on Google in Safari or clicking a link in the Mail, the apps just freeze.

I tried clearing Safari history data/cache, closing all apps and restarting the phone (both regular and holding both home/power key), disabling all sorts of settings form Safari settings, but no luck.. Anyone with an idea how to sort it out?

I updated my iPhone 5 a few hours after the official launch of iOS 9.3.  There was no problem.  After that, I updated my iPad 2 to iOS 9.3 and it was kidnapped by Apple Activation Server for almost 4 days.  After fixing the iPad 2 with the suggestion from Apple support, iPad resumed.  Then I updated my iPhone 6.  It freezes after clicking on links with Safari, Chrome and Mail.  This is the second nightmare to me for iOS 9.3.

Both iPad 2 and iPhone 6 are my daily use devices.  What's wrong with Apple?

I found a work around to copy and paste a link in messages. Hold down the text before the one with a link. Select More. Tap on the message with the link that you want. Untap on the one you initially held down.  Select forward button in bottom right hand corner. Now hold down to select all and copy link. Paste in Chrome/Safari. I'll be using Chrome until they do an update since I can at least hold down in Chrome and get Open in New Tab or Copy URL.

I was aware of the temp solution of disabling Java before the Apple person on the helpline last night advised me.  I immediately stopped her in her tracks when I said that many websites use Java, including Facebook, so the solution is a sack of **** as you have to keep on toggling between your settings page when you do/don't have a need for Java.

This is a ****-poor temporary solution.

Now go back Apple and work on a proper fix.

    Thanks,

What would be interesting to know is when you start to install from scratch your software and see what applications are causing this.

Temporary stopgap while waiting for iOS update: it seems like the frozen links only affect Google searches. I have hence done what had been so far unthinkable: a Bing search. Links work fine there. I even won recognition as the 1000th user this month! :-)

Why is it the Apple   SW engineers can't get such basic stuff right ?  I mean opening emails tapping links in email and tapping links in Safari is the most BASIC test for any test engineer to pass. These are not exotic functions, these are MUST HAVES and should never fail... I am really frustrated with this bug and will never update my IOS with a  new release in future until waiting at least 2 weeks. !

Even working on a bank holiday!  Blimey, good for them - there's dedication!

I respect your sympathy to Apple but it's wasted on them as they should've never launched 9.3 with this many problems.

Apple's USP for many years, which they're more than happy for customers to promote, is that in the world of consumer electronics, they're the best of the best.

This is how you get customers to part with €800 for an iPad and €700 for an iPhone.  Customers know they're paying over the odds, but they're also buying build quality, functionally and ease of use.  This latest shambles with 9.3 calls much of this into question.

    In case anyone is feeling sorry for poor little Apple and has an attitude of 'Well, these problems can happen', let me remind everyone on this thread of the following;

'“Fiscal 2015 was Apple’s most successful year ever, with revenue growing 28% to nearly $234 billion. This continued success is the result of our commitment to making the best, most innovative products on earth, and it’s a testament to the tremendous execution by our teams,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “We are heading into the holidays with our strongest product lineup yet, including iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, Apple Watch with an expanded lineup of cases and bands, the new iPad Pro and the all-new Apple TV which begins shipping.'

If you see Tim Cook, ask him how he's getting along with 9.3?

Thoroughly agreed.  My understanding of Apple's software issue which have been stirring for the last few years is that it coincides with some of their best programmers jumping ship to Samsung, which at the same time has continually released some great products and eaten into Apple's market share.

    You pay peanuts...

My frustration with the above is why aren't you keeping you're best staff when you turned-over €234bn in 2015?  What, not quite enough mulah?  Do me a favour.

Exact same problem here!  Thanks for posting as it seems now to be an Apple problem, not a user problem.
