Q: Messages stopped working. Late 2011 macbook pro, Os 10.10.5

Messages has completely stopped working. I've reset my icloud password and deleted the old files in the library, but I get a blank screen. I still get notifications, but can't see them. Cannot access preferences and cannot send a new message. I've attached an edited print screen of what I see. Any help appreciated. Thanks,.

Same thing happened with me last night.  i brought my Imac upstate with me... pluuged it in, and it stopped working. I was here 3 weeks ago and did not have an issue.  Cannot access /preferences or/add account.  tried deleting.plst files but that did not work either.

    Hi,

In your case open the Font Book and check the AppleGothic (all one word) font is there.

It should be Active, not duplicated and should Validate (File Menu).

Also check Lucida Grande and Helvetica Neue

The top one is normally the cause of the app not launching fully and denying access to the Preferences.

    Hi,

You should be able to Restore it in Font Book in the File Menu > Restore Standard Fonts
