Q: For those having problems with the iOS 9.3 update please read...

So many people are having problems with the update to iOS 9.3 and the questions are flooding the iOS support forums now. I am hoping that by consolidating some of the information available, it will help some of you without starting hundreds of new threads all asking about the same things.

Please do not shoot the messenger if you already know all of this. I am just trying to help by providing some information To the community. Theses problems are well known, Apple has acknowledged them and is reportedly working on a fix that should be out soon.

Here are some tech site articles that explain the problems if any of you are interested in reading them. They are in no particular order other than what my most recent Google search turned up for me.

This one contains some suggestions that might actually help some of you.

Apple posted these support articles a couple of days ago and they might help some of you as well

If you can't activate your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch after installing iOS 9.3 - Apple Support

If you can’t activate your iPad 2 (GSM model) after you update to iOS 9.3 - Apple Support

If nothing suggested works for you right now, you will just have to be patient (remember that "please don't shoot the messenger" thing from above ) and wait until Apple issues the fixed software update.

The "Safari" bug is separate issue than 9.3 = merely coincidental in timing

Don't know what to make of this:

2 iPad Airs and 1 iPhone 5, all three updated to iOS 9.3 last week before they pulled the update. Running ok.

All 3 show Version 9.3 (13E233), i.e., not the new build which is 13E5237.

On the iPhone, if I go to Software Update it says "Up To Date".

On the 2 iPads if I go to Software Update they both offer a new version which is 1.3 GBs (large) and "Download and Install".

This is confusing, at least to me. Anyone seeing this?

It would appear that there is a new version for the iPads but not for the iPhones.  ???

And why 1.3 GBs, seems very large to me.

Based on the recent track record of Apple, I am not installing anything.

    Any feedback appreciated...

Edit: I wish Apple would offer some guidance on this. Dreaming, I know.

This is really odd now. I see the update that you are describing on my iPhone 5s at 1.4GB. My iPad Air 2 says that the software is up to date. There is no way that I am downloading a 1.4 GB file to update the phone.

Something i noticed earlier. I was trying to respond to you via dictation, but the mic is not working in Safari on my iPhone. The mic is grayed out and I don't know why.

Is it possible the 1.4GB is the total of the operating system download, not just the update ?

I'm with you... updating funky software might be too difficult for rapid deployment = too many "IF... Then" operations

Just got the latest and it installed and works. Should we say thanks Apple for getting it there at last?

As additional info, my wife's iPhone 5 had not been updated prior to the pull, i.e., it is still on 9.2.1. She connected it to power an hour ago and it now states that an update is ready to install. It is 233 MBs. I would assume that this update is the new build but no way to tell before installing and she is not installing anything either at this time!!!

The lack of response from Apple is really disconcerting. Most companies post instructions on their websites when a new update or bug fix is issued. Hard to understand why guidance is not being offered.

Same problems with links not opening/crashing iPad 4 after updating to iOS 9.3. Disabled JAVA for Safari, still does not work. Frustrating. Have to take my Windows laptop on business trip, forget iPad. Way to go Apple.

Both of theses have been updated within the last few hours (according to Google time - unsure whether that is crawl-time or modification time)

Do you remember how large the file was? I'm hesitant to download 1.4 GB when the first update went fine on my phone.

it would have to be, but I still want to know why the update was pushed to my phone when it updated just fine. I'm going to take a break have some chow. I will be back.

Please see my post above. My wife's iPhone is attempting to go from 9.2.1 to ostensibly the new 9.3 build and it is saying 233 MBs. So your question and mine are valid indeed. Why are our devices that already updated saying 1.3-1.4 GBs?

If as Bob suggests it is the total iOS, why do we need the total OTA on devices that already updated ok?

Rhetorical comment, why can't anyone at Apple clarify in an HT?
