Q: iOS 9.3 - Safari/Mail freezes after clicking links on iPhone 6S

Hi,

Never had any problems with my iPhone 6S. Just upgraded to iOS 9.3 without any issues. After the upgrade, I can't click links when searching something on Google in Safari or clicking a link in the Mail, the apps just freeze.

I tried clearing Safari history data/cache, closing all apps and restarting the phone (both regular and holding both home/power key), disabling all sorts of settings form Safari settings, but no luck.. Anyone with an idea how to sort it out?

This link issue has been happening since before the 9.3 update for me.  I updated to 9.3 because I thought it might *resolve* my issue.  I called on Sunday night, spoke to a Senior Advisor, who suggested I open up settings, Safari, Java, turn off java.  This worked for the Safari links (though it's just a workaround for now, I can at least look at safari links currently).  However, I noticed today that I still can not open links in my email (and I suspect anywhere else).  I called Apple again around 4:45pm (3 hrs ago).  Spoke to a rep, who did not ask me my phone number for call backs.  I got disconnected.  I tried calling back, and then in the meantime, got several emails that Apple was trying to call me back, however, they were calling an incorrect number.  I went into my support profile to change that, and the number they were trying to call wasn't even in there.  I tried signing into the case to update them, to no avail.  So I waited 35 min to talk to a rep, told her my issues and made sure she changed my call back number in the support case, and asked for a senior advisor.  She transferred me to a senior advisor.  Mid convo with that advisor, the call dropped me back into the support queue with the automated attendant.  FURIOUS!!!  1hr 30 min into this second call I finally got someone, and 2hrs into it I finally hung up with Senior Tech.

Senior Tech confirmed that Apple is aware of this issue (duh we know that already), and that they are working on an update to fix it.  He could not give me any indication of when the update would happen, but is supposed to check in with me tomorrow evening or wed afternoon either way.  I really hope they get this fixed in the next 12 hrs or I am going to FLIP OUT!

PS - while on my 2nd call hold today, I tried reaching out via twitter, hoping for a quicker response.  STILL Havent gotten a response to ANY of my tweets or direct message.  Severely disappointed.  @applesupport.

I Installed 9.3 on my iPhone 6s, and am experiencing the freeze problems you described whenever I click (touch) on any hyperlinks.  I have tried cold booting, and closing all applications, then opening mail and clicking on a link, alas, the phone no longer functions reliably for anything internet related.  The problem is not strictly Safari related, it has been caused by changes in iOS 9.3.  Do not install 9.3 on any iOS devices till Apple acknowledges the problem and announces a fix.

Before my links started crashing mail and iMessages on my 6s plus, I was able to open a text from someone about this issue. The linked article suggested going to settings, Safari, advanced, and turning off JavaScript and deleting all website content. Ironically, when I tried to go back to that link, I found that neither it nor any links in mail worked any more. I followed the above suggested "work-around", then did a soft reset then a hard reboot of the phone after closing all apps, but it did nothing--mail still crashes and has to be force-quit if any link is pushed. This really needs to be fixed!

I have disabled Javascript and still doesn't work. So frustrated. Any idea when this will be fixed. My phone is useless. I  don't to revert to factory settings as other users tried this and it didn't work.

Yes, I too have been having non-stop problems since the update.  I'm confident the Apple nerds will correct it soon:)

I have this issue but even with javascript turned off for safari it still has not temporarily solved the problem.....unless you have done it a different way to me?

hope the get this sorted soon.. as its doesn't just affect Safari.

Well  thank goodness I found you guys - suddenly on my IPad I can't open safari as it freezes and unable to use links in email -- Sounding like a familiar story and no solution from Apple ! Not sure how long I can put up with this.I downloaded chrome and it allows me to open link in a new tab but this is a ridiculous  interim solution

    please help
