Q: Is there a way to stop the 'free songs' Apple vomits into your library?

Short description:

 

I do not want any songs added to my library or 'purchased songs' list unless I personally put them there.

 

Long description:

 

For a decent period of time (at least 4 months), my iPad and iPhone utterly refuse to play the last thing I was listening to when I start my vehicle with my iPad within reach. It is usually Audible, but sometimes it's podcasts(Apple podcast app) or music. What it does do, is blast some trash from my 'purchased' list without even asking me. Not my library, or something already on my iPad, but something it has to download. As an adult with well developed and understood musical preferences, I know what I like and I definitely know what I hate. And I hate a minimum of 90% of the garbage they throw into my library.

 

I found the option in the app to make 'everything' not on my device inaccessible, but this is only a partial fix. Sure it gets rid of the 50 songs Apple has sprayed all over my face, but it makes my other 10,000 inaccessible. I go through the hassle of deleting the songs from my purchased list, but there is a never ending stream that keeps getting flushed from some toilet somewhere and ends up on my devices.

 

Is there a method of preventing unwanted items from being injected in MY music libraries?

 

On a side note, yes I have tried everything from multiple websites and forums on making my devices play the last thing they were just playing 2 hours ago. Nothing has worked. And I am not willing to just whipe my devices for this particular nuisance. If I can just stop the garbage from playing, I'll be happy with the other flaws.

Since this doesn’t happen, there isn’t anything to stop.

Your “Short description” and Long description” are not related in any way at all.

 

The Purchased list is items you have purchased (or free) in iTunes.

Items go there after you purchase them. That is the only way to add to it.They may o may not be on you computer, depending if you downloaded them or not.

    Long Description: Why I want the random free songs to stop. I apologize if the talk of red hats in a math problem involving only apples and oranges was confusing.

     

    I despise rap and hip-hop (music is music, it is a valid genre, I do not like it however).

     

    Big Boi, Kelis, Capone-N-Noreaga, Curren$y, Kanye Ugh West... I have never even viewed these artists on the internet or in the iTunes Store, and I have at least 30 songs from these few artists alone. There are another dozen artists in my 'purchased' list. There was a separate and different list on my mac iTunes.

     

    I have viewed my list of purchases on my account, I never paid any money for them, so it was not a hacking. I rotate my important passwords (apple accounts are on that list) at least once every 6 months and they are a minimum of 16 chars with all the goodies mixed in. So either I am a very, very special human and Apple has decided to gift only me with a pile of music for free, or there are other people out there with my issue. Or I suppose I could just have a unique glitch for some reason.

     

    I don't have my account shared with anyone.

     

    Thank you for your response, but 'it cannot happen' is not a valid 'assistance' for this topic. It has happened. And continues to happen.

     

    Please try to bear in mind I am not computer illiterate.

    Find one of these unwanted songs in iTunes, and do a right-click Get Info on it.  On the Info screen, go to the File tab.  Purchased items have a purchased by field. What does it say there?  Does it show your name and Apple ID?

    I found the problem, I had to go all the way back to 2009/2010 in my 'purchased history'. Apparently, someone somewhere did manage to bone me 6 years ago and I never noticed it. They got me for $80 worth of trash music. Yay.

     

    And I have managed to go a full 6 years before noticing. I only noticed because of Apples auto-added 'purchased music' playlist. Thanks, I think?

     

    Apologies for not digging deep enough, internet people. This was back before I got serious with my password security.

    NOTE:  You can hide those unwanted songs, so that they do not appear in your library or on your Purchased screen.

     

    Hide and unhide purchases in iTunes or iBooks on your Mac or PC - Apple Support
