Q: Safari won't open any links and then freezes/crashes

HELP! The Safari on my fairly new iphone 6s has gone haywire.  Safari opens fine, and if you type in a direct URL, it will go to the website just fine.  However, if i attempt to search any subject it will pull up the pages of websites, but will not allow me to connect to any of the links and when I select a link it then freezes and crashes safari.   Additionally, if i try to open any weblink imbedded in an email, it again freezes and crashes both mail AND Safari. SO FUN!

And just to test general connectivity and function, i downloaded Google Chrome to see if I can search and connect there, and I can. The search works fine, pulls up the pages, and strangely, I can't access the pages direct, but it will allow me to open the page in another tab.  I feel like this should be a clue for someone smarter than I.

I have been tinkering for about an hour with it and I am at a loss.

Things I have tried:

1. Resetting the phone - both just by powering off and a hard reset (Power + Home)

2. Turning off Safari Suggestions (and browser suggestions) - this was a fix that I found for a bug that seemed similar from earlier this year.

3. Changing the search engine from Google to Yahoo and back, nothing.

4. Private Browsing (again a "fix" I found on the interwebs...)

5. Downloading and upgrading my iOS to 9.3. Still nothing.

6. Banging my head on my computer and cursing very loudly at the phone.

PLEASE, if you have any suggestions, i am all ears... I am going bananas and can't let it go.

THANK YOU!!!

iPhone 6s, iOS 9.3, Prob started while on 9.2.1

GOOD NEWS, Apple have acknowledged the problem and are working on a fix, apparently as their top priority:

I have tried to turn off the java script but I still have the same problem.

A temporary solution that I have found is to download the google app and from there you can search whatever you want and open any link without any problems. You should give it a try..

The remaining issue is within some apps that I have to press a login window which probably my guess is calling a link in order to allow you to connect. In that case I still have the same issue and no matter what I have tried I cannot press the login button and at the end the app crashes.

Same problem for me Directly after iOS update. Very annoying Indeed.

Would be nice for Apple to acknowledge issue and communicate planned resolution...

I have the same problem with iPhone 5s but I did not do the ISO update so I am still on 9.2.1. Was working on Friday, then on Saturday it stopped working and crashes my phone every time I tried to click on a link in Safari or in my emails. Has this been fixed yet? Seems to have been going on for a very long time and no info from Apple at all. Not even a reply to my Tweet acknowledging the problem!

It's interesting that Apple preach on about the advantages and beauty of their hardware/software integration and the robustness of their "ecosystem"....well if you live by that sword it looks like you die by that sword.....certainly on this thread!

I'm sure Android Users probably suffer similar issues from time to time...but maybe don't have a single place like the Apple Forum to complain about it (although here it seems there's still a lack of interaction with Apple Support staff)......OR...... maybe they DON'T actually suffer this kind of thing in the first place!?

Perhaps Apple, like a pedigree dog - after years of in-breedng, suffers from a congenital disease and lacks the robustness in it's "eco-system" that the diversity of the mongrel Android World brings....before I mix my metaphors further - it's got to be worrying that a single Apple screw-up wipes out a significant chunk of it's  customer base.  (16,800 people viewing this thread - probably indicates that a lot more out their are affected)

Apple in their last keynote talked gleefully of only 2% of Android Users updating to the latest Snow Cone (or whatever!)......but I'm not sure who are the dumb ones now!

Changing to BING for the search engine on Safari fixed it on multiple devices for me.

Using Google via the app is fine for the moment.

I talked to one of the Apple agents and he said that I should wait for the new update

for now the only thing we can do is to turn off the JavaScript or Change the search engine to bing
