Try selecting uninstall driver and check the box to delete the driver. Then follow these steps: Re: How do I re-install the apple USB mobile device driver once it has been deleted?

    Try the following:

    1. Open Control Panel > Device Manager
    2. Plug in your device
    3. Locate Universal Serial Bus Controllers > Apple Mobile Device USB Driver.
It is also possible the device may show under Imaging Devices, Portable Devices or Other Devices or as an MTB USB Device.
    4. Right-click and select Update Driver Software...
    5. Click Browse my computer for driver software
    6. Browse to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers or
                      C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
    7. Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
    8. Click Apple Mobile Device USB Driver
    9. Click Next, then Close and exit Device Manager

Or try iPhone, iPad, or iPod not recognized in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support

Failing that try a full tear down and rebuild of iTunes as set out in Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

Same problem with me. iTunes would not recognize my iPod.

I also tried manually updating the drivers as other posts have suggested but still couldn't get it to work.

I managed to get it to work by doing the following:

    -- Unplug device

    -- Uninstall iTunes

-- Stop the Apple Mobile Device Service

    -- Delete folders C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple and C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple

    -- Re-install iTunes

    -- Plug in device

This installed the driver, opened iTunes and worked perfectly.

The article, while it probably works for some people, doesn't work for me at all. Funny how the only real way to let Apple know that we have this issue is to jump through a bunch of hoops with a phone call, only for them to tell us that they're working on the issue. I'm not wasting my time doing that; just want to be able to e-mail them and get something of a response.

Just to share, I also had the same issue. After upgrading iTunes to 12.3.3.17 on my Win10 pc, my ipod wouldn't sync anymore. I updated the drivers per the instructions above, thanks...also found this on the other posts: http://www.technipages.com/itunes-fix-iphone-or-ipod-not-detected-in-windows

It wasn't working at first. But I reboot for good measure and then my ipod was able to sync after the reboot. The reboot likely loaded the new drivers correctly. Hope this helps.

I installed iTunes v12.3.3.17 after which iTunes no longer recognized by iPhone 5S (software 9.2.1) or iPad2 (software 9.3).  I searched various articles and instructions for a week and finally found one that worked for me.  It was part of an old OSX Daily article for which I'll include a link at the bottom of my Reply, but the only step that worked for me (with the clarifications I've included below in caps, bold and underline) was the following instruction.  I hope this will help someone else having the same problem.  P.S. - I chatted online with Apple and also went the to Apple Retail Store before I found this article.  Chat was no help at all as I had already done everything suggested by them and the suggestion at the retail store was that I bring in my 25" desktop with the iPad and iPhone so they could work on it.

For iPhone / iPad Not Being Detected in Windows, Update iPhone Driver

For Windows PC users whose iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is not being found or detected by iTunes or the computer, you can update the iOS Device Driver like so:

    1. Go to the Device Manager in Windows, and locate “Apple iPhone” under portable devices section
    2. Right click on the ‘Apple iPhone’ and choose “Update DRIVER software”
    3. Now click “Browse MY COMPUTER FOR DRIVER SOFTWARE
    4. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple… and choose the folder called "MOBILE DEVICE SUPPORT" then “Drivers”

The updated driver will install and update and iTunes should now detect the iPhone, ipad, or iPod touch as intended.

That driver approach is for Windows PC, for Mac there is no driver to update in OS X aside from iTunes and general OS X system software, which is updated from  Apple menu > App Store > Updates.

Did you update the driver from the Apple program files, as the post above describes? It does say the device is working properly, but you still need to update the driver. Fixed the problem for me, which started when I updated iTunes to v12.3.3.17.
